Maybe. We were tipped off that Pier One Imports wasn't a bad place to look for rugs and we were surprised. Never having considered Pier One to be a good rug destination, we took a look.
While definitely not trendy, we were impressed with the price (as in low) and the quality of the rugs on offer. With nothing over $800, most rugs around $100, and good Tibetan wool construction in some, we would look here for small, practical hall rugs and runners, but not think to find a showpiece. Locations are UES, Grammercy & Midtown (see below). MGR

I'd like to comments from purchasers about any smell, if any, from the Pier 1 rugs. Years ago natural items and even towels from that store had a wet grass/dog smell that needed airing and washing to remove. I liked the website but wonder about the wisdom of purchasing a small jute rug from them.
Regards, Jonathan
I've used some of their smaller rugs as table runners - a good way to change the look for the different seasons.
Jonathan, I'm very sensitive to smells and never noticed any coming from the rugs I've purchased - but they were not the jute ones - they were the rag-rug ones.
Yes! I got a wool rug from Pier 1 about 2yrs ago. Multi Square 100% Wool Pile, about 4 x 7. Over the past year it's somehow taken on a 'burnt rubber' smell that I cannot get out. No incidents at my home. The rug is under a table on hardwood floor. I've tried everything to relieve the smell and nothing worked. I vacuum it regularly, new vacuum, I've cleaned it, aired out outside for 3 days. Nothing has worked! Do you have any suggestions on how to approach Pier 1?
Kelly, I had a sofa for 8 months that the cushions sunk in on after gentle use and Pier 1 accepted it and refunded it no questions asked. I think their customer service is pretty good, just give them a call about your rug.
I would not call them cheap. And they have a very small selection. You can buy discount rugs at Rugs USA for far less .
Look here for a wide selection

I'd agree that PIER 1 has a great selection, I prefer to shop online but the odd time I go out I certainly pay them a visit. You can find cheap rugs here as well http://rugshd.com/
