Holiday? It's awful quiet in Tribeca this morning. Sort of makes you wonder how many people really are working today. At any rate, for those of you behind their computers, we want to just have a little rant about all the HOME DESIGN sections that we've been thinking about all weekend.
What is going on?
The New York Observer had an insert on Friday called The Home Observer, The New York Times put out another Capital "T" Style Magazine, which looks ready to give Fashions of the Times a run for its money, Time Out New York dumped its Home Design Issue onto newstands, and even The New Yorker reportedly weighed in last week with home design in it's issue.
In the 60's, 70's and 80's America learned to cook as we slowly opened up our hearts and minds to the skill, passion and sophistication of French cooking (and then other types). Restaurants, books and stores sprung up as our interest in good cooking increased, leading to ubiquitous institutions like Zagat's Restaurant Guide, Williams-Sonoma, and countless French cooking schools. Before WW II this would have been unheard of as Americans gobbled down burgers and coke and gave no thought to snails and fettucini.
Is this now happening in the furniture and design world?
Are Americans - and that means ALL of us, not just us snotty urbanites on the coasts - ready to talk about chairs and rugs? Are we ready to pay more for adventurous and sophisticated home furnishings? Is home design entering a golden age?
We think the answer is yes, and as this sleeping giant wakes, we will enjoy the ride. MGR

That is a very creative - and beautiful! - use of space!
Love it! Especially the kitchen island.
So chic without feeling cold. And I love me some grey! Also, the floating bed wall is a bit of genius. Not only is it functional but it sits in the room like an art installation. Voting as one of my faves.
I was going to second the comment of the floating wall. Did you put that in or was it there? Either way, it is great for privacy, but doesn't close everything off. Love the gray as well.
Love the color scheme. The wall is genius, and the dinning lamp is really cool. I too wonder if you installed it or was it already there. Nice and chic!
Wait a minute, have we seen this before on AT? I think I even bookmarked it. I recognized the Brooklyn art it was on the floating wall. I loved it then and I love it now.
One of the best I've seen yet!
Thanks for the great photos! I love the dining area lighting. Was that there when you moved in? You've got my vote.
I really like your color palette!
Love the floating wall. You are talented with vignettes. Are you sure this is over 800 sq feet? Might that include an outdoor space?
Also do you own or rent? If you own it would be fabulous to paint those cabinets white or a dark colour (maybe after adding moulding to make them look like shaker cabinets) and add statement hardware. I think it would really tie it into the rest of your "look".
anyone know what those selves/bedside tables are? love them!
Oh my goodness, this space is amazing. Love the colors, especially the bold navy walls. The kitchen is fab. I totally want to live here.
so chic! can you tell us the color/brand of gray paint you used?
Another Minneapolitan! Great space, extremely well edited.
Love how your dresser fits perfectly in that nook!
Smart design, Casey. Love the paint color choices and especially that open bookshelf in your living room!
It looks like the bedside tables are just like the Expedit ones from IKEA. I love this space!
Absolutely lovely!
Also, I *HAVE* to know where you got that faux-coral lamp. It kicks ass, I want one, and I love right across the river.
I love your decor, but I don't love your kitchen. Still, it's a favorite.
Hey Casey - what do I owe you? Your genius floating bedroom wall just solved my layout problem. Good luck with the competition!
As a fellow Casey, of course I'm going to favorite your place. :-) Adore the navy walls, and add me to the fan list for the faux-coral lamp! I recently upgrade from 452 sq ft to 1,000 and still am getting used to all of the space!
I love the industrial feel!
I think you live in the same building that my parents live in! Love what you've done!
Love this space! I have the same wall color scheme, so this is a great inspiration for me!
Absolutely fantastic!!
Thanks for the kind words!
The wall came with the place...some of the units had them instead of full walls.
I do own it. I purchased it, had it painted and moved in May 30.
The kitchen redo is on the 5 year plan.
The bedroom side tables are the Ikea "expedit" 39 bucks each.
The dining room lighting is of my own creation and installation.
(and) Yes, you may have seen some of my belongings before as my rental unit was on a house tour last year. (Casey's Loft Life)
Oh about the square footage...my laundry room is 10x8 and my bathroom is 12x5 plus there is a long hallway. Look for it on and upcoming AT House Tour. :)
Great space! I try to vote only for spaces I'd like to live in and yours is at or very near the top!!
Very nice! I concur on the floating wall but want to say thumbs up on the windows. I really love letting all the light in possible and don't see the need for always using window treatments. I know it's a preference thing and sometimes absolutely necessary but it's nice to see another person on my team!
I witnessed the before and after transformations for this loft and its FANTASTIC!
Great to have a five year plan! Amazing that you've done all this in less than a year!!
I would also LOVE to know where the coral lamp is from!
Actually all the lighting is to die for.
I L-O-V-E the navy blue. I die. What is it??
Oh, please tell us more about the dining room light.
This is lovely--a perfect mix of industrial and glam.
Love the gorgeous Navy color, with white and silver accents. Especially that bookshelf in the living "room".
love everything about your place! the wall colors are perfect.
I love the colors you have chosen, and the bedroom is so chic! Love it!
Please tell me the wall colors. That's exactly the color scheme I've been wanting.
i love the light + dark grey palette you went with. and clever use of a wall divider ;)
Agreed, bodicegoddess. Except I'm in Minneapolis. I know of a few people who NEED that fabulous coral lamp!
And I love how you solved the lighting for the dining area... I'm also thrilled that you have a dining area! For me, this is a consistently overlooked necessity.
The lamp came from Homegoods over a year ago...but I have spotted them there recently.
Yes, paint colors, please! You have a beautiful home.
Thank you all. I have to double-check the colors and will post tomorrow!
Such a beautiful and peaceful looking abode.
Can you please share what the floors are made out of? Thanks
Very well done. My favorite is the sleeping area. I love the use of pairs - prints, nightstands, lamps, and mirrors. Gives it a sophisticated, decorator look.
Beautiful! As a fellow Minneapolitan, I'm not exactly unbiased, but I truly love your space. This is a perfect combination of industrial and glam.
(I'm also in the loft district---are we neighbors?)
Like previous posters, I'm curious about the wall colors. Please share!
very well put together!
I'd also like some instructions/hints on the light over your dining table. Looks fabulous!
SUPER CUTE!!
My apologies. In my earlier comment I said that I purchased it May 30th...it was actually March 30th of this year. I've only been in it for 4 weeks!
"... one has to be creative."
More like 'genius'.
This happens to be one of my all time faves!!!..Where do I start? the overall paint color, breathtaking. that divider between the bed and the dining area AWSOME!..I love the way the dresser fits perfectly in the divider. I really like how the kitchen is part of the room but somehow not. The gorgeous chrome etagere and the art you've chosen are terrific. I would hire you on the spot.
All paint colors are by Ralph Lauren...
main grey "Neutral Grey"
navy "Cardiff Blue"
bathroom "Silver Cuff Links"
Stay tuned for an Apartment Therapy House Tour

great wall color
Love it
What a gorgeous use of this space. So Creative and functional... A place that I love to call home... A job well done..
One of my favorites! Beautiful, I could see myself living there. I think the bedroom separation wall is brillant and I love your nightstands. You've done an excellent job on wall decor and vignettes.
I don't mind the kitchen at all, its industrial look is a nice contrast to your more living area. I love love your chaise.
The nut doesn't fall far from the tree! (-:
I also have seen the before and after ..what Casey did in such a short time is awesome..it's his personal touch to all the details that makes it pop..and the colors are fantastic. What a great sense of style and vision.. he truely has the talent.
Very chic, yet comfortable. I didn't think I could live in such a small space, but Casey changed my mind. His skills will make him a success. Kudos.
Beautiful wall colours! Do you have a blog?
Ok, no need to answer that, I found your website on your profile :-)
Thanks everyone for a vote! my website is being updated soon!
