2004_10_15_scratch.jpgScratch this. Recently received an email for this extremely nice DIY cat scratch post and thought to put it out there for small apartment dwellers. Made by GE Morris down in Raleigh, NC (yes, he's a industrial design grad student), this is born of necessity:

I made it because I simply didnt have the floorspace to spare for those hideous petsmart pieces of pastel pink and blue carpet remnant piles of shit.

Made in "one hour" (instructions below), we think it works, and can't wait to see the "kitty bondage post," complete with small paw cuffs..... (Thanks, GE!) MGR

It’s a piece of 2x3 poplar with a 3/8″ notch cut out of the entire back for sisal rope clearance. Every three wraps we stapled the rope to the board on the back with a staple gun. It’s a bit hard on the thumbs to keep the rope wrapped tight enough, but I was pleased with the end result. Eames needed a scratching post and I simply don’t have the floorspace to spare in my tiny apartment.
