Dear AT,
I don't know if this is the correct protocol for having an "apartment question" answered, but I am having a lot of trouble finding a contractor who would be willing to do a small job, i.e opening up a closet opening (now approx. 5' x 6 1/2') which I would like to enlarge to 5' x say, 9'.
So basically, someone good with a sawzall and taping and patching all of it back up so it looks clean and good.
Any thoughts? I am finally trying to tackle the biggest problem in my life: the one closet in my apartment, and this is the first step, so any feedback would be much appreciated!
Thank you!
Stephanie
This is the biggest problem in NYC, too. If you don't have a good super in the building who recommends someone, you are stuck. We have three numbers you can call:

I really like our contractor/handyman, he owns Almac Hardware in Newkirk Plaza (Flatbush area on B/Q train). His name is Javier (nickname Javi) and he runs a super friendly family business. You can tell by his patience and care that he likes what he does...a lot! He had a crew come in to do apartment sealing for us and we were very happy with the price and the job done. Definitely cheaper than Park Slope/Heights area places. The number is 718 434 1736, and email info@almachardware.com. You can tell him Tate from Sony sent you.
