2004_11_10_stain1.gifTo the trade. Our selection this week for a hard to find to-the-trade artisan is Frank Close, who designs glass window installations for residential and commerical projects. To us in New York, where many windows look onto air shafts, stained glass seems like an attractive choice.

Trained in Berkeley under Ludwig Schaffrath, Frank Close taught stained glass at the University of Kentucky for ten years, before moving his studio to New York City 1987.

2004_11_10_stain3.gifHe now focuses on site specific stained glass projects and glass sculpture. His work is as diverse as it can be, from beautiful small scale residential windows to huge windows for churches and synagogues, to computer-like windows for Roche Molecular Systems.
