This just in. Duchamp's 1917 work, "Fountain," which consists of a white urinal, was voted the most influential work of modern art EVER on Wednesday, reports the AP.
Quote: The creative process that goes into a work of art is the most important thing. The work itself can be made of anything and can take any form. Simon Wilson
Picasso and Warhol both said through spokesmen that they felt cheated.
The survey was conducted by Gordon's Gin, who said they would now serve their gin in a similar fountain.
The urinal was also signed by R. Mutt.
That was not mentioned. (Thanks, James!) MGR

The reason Duchamp's piece was genius is simple. It was very early and completely rewrote the map of possibilities.
Picasso? Well, any artist or critic with any integrity knows he didn't produce anything after 1929 worth noting.
Warhol? Well, perhaps Rothko put it best. Walking the streets of New York one day with mentor, critic and friend Clement Greenberg, Greenberg noticed Warhol and said went to introduce the two seminal artists. Rothko looked at Warhol, turned, and walked off.
