ok... i gotta ask this. i've been considering this bed a while now... the one thing that's kept me from taking the, er plunge is my concern that this sort of wooden-slat beds would uh... fail under the strain of vigorous non-sleeping activities that take place in the bed.

don't wanna get too blue, but you know what i'm asking?

I'm not ready for the bedroom theme to die. How about giving us the Top 10 list of beds for under $1000?

MJ, thanks for posting this picture. I've bee thinking about buying this bed and seeing it in use (I don't mean it like that) is very helpful. I'm unsure about how the mattress fits the corners, but otherwise I love the lines. Seems perfect for and apartment, sturdy, easy to move, etc. And since I am still considering it, I'd like to think of the color as "light powder blue".

I love the super-streamlined, no-brainer look of the West Elm Metal Bed. Especially for the place I live in, where the doors and hallway is medievally narrow, the steps are unusualy steep and the rooms are... ah, "cozy". They did not have a sample in their store in Chelsea so I couldn't get a grasp on the design, and did not want to get it without checking it out first. Also, I had second thoughts after reading the scoop here about the "post-coital West Elm bummer" (best post EVER)

NY, you're right! the mattress doesn't really fit seamlessly into those rounded corners, which is SO odd! (that picture is of the full alu with a full, 8" sonno mattress) If you decide on the Alu full size, and are interested in a barely used one, let me know, I'll sell you mine.

Sam, I would head on down to the MePa DWR and try out that Alu bed with a few friends—that's a prime number, right? Really, it seems stronger than any other bed I've ever slept in and I'm not kidding when I say it's noiseless. No squeaks. No sliding around on the wooden floor.

I bought the Alu frame and headboard from DWR a few motnhs ago and it really is noiseless, squeak- squeak-less and does not slide around while doing the horizontal lambada. :o) It is perfect for my largish studio: I bought a full and it fits perfectly in my walk in closet thanks to the slim dimensions. I even have room for a dresser in there! I sleep like a baby now with my memory foam on top of some old mattress that I got from my parents.
