In home design as in style, there are some combinations that just work. Today we're taking a closer look at one of my favorite looks for the bathroom, a stylish (but not too trendy) combination of elements that's sure to look fantastic in any style of bathroom.

Something about the combination of a round mirror, a single wall sconce, and subway tile (dark grout preferred but not required) feels both very classic but also very now. And as bathroom looks go, it's also very budget-friendly. If you're shy about remodeling, you can forego the tile for now and just replace your mirror and lighting, for an instant upgrade with hardly any effort at all.

Here's the combination in a modern bathroom from Domino. The metal detail at the mirror's rim adds a bit of flair, but I could see this working equally well with a very modern, frameless mirror.

This bathroom, from Studio McGee, via their Instagram, is much more classical in style, but still a round mirror, single sconce, and subway tile feels just right. The detailing of the mirror and the sconce is a bit more traditional, as is the wall treatment, with the subway tile wainscot capped by a bullnose and wallpaper above.

The stacked layout of the subway tile lends a modern feel to this bathroom form Design*Sponge, but the wood of the vanity adds a little warmth to the space. The round mirror, with a single sconce above, coordinates as neatly with this modern vanity as it did with the pedestal sink above.

In this spare, modern bathroom by Elizabeth Roberts, a round mirror, single sconce, and square subway tile is the perfect combination. It's also proof that this combo can look just a nice in doubles, as well.
