Name: Dante
Location: West Village
Size: 250 sq/ft
Type: Studio
The Pitch:
I moved to this approx 250sf studio from a luxurious flat in San Francisco and brought the majority of my furniture with me. When the movers were done there was almost no room to unpack- just floor to ceiling boxes.
Somehow, I got it all in there: the queen-size bed, the dining table that seats 6. There wasn't much room to move, but it was all in there. While I am on the verge of moving to another apartment (a little bigger!), this one is still my favorite and it will be sad to leave. I am really glad I had a chance to document it. And at least now, when I move, I won't need to buy a thing!

Hmmm, you should have left more than just your heart in San Francisco.
I like it Dante! I too am a "small studio survivor" and I know that it's hard to give away furniture when you know that at some point you'll be moving on to a larger place. There's a lot going on in the apartment but I don't think it's overwhelming, and there's a balance between organization and living that looks comfortable to me. I miss my little studio and I know you will miss yours too. When you live in a space so small you get to know, and love, every inch of it!
the red/white yard furniture rocks
The utilitarian metal/garden furniture theme is not quite doing it for me. You are consistant in your choices of metal topped desk, metal filing cabinet, metal garden furniture and metal tool chest - but they don't seem to work in the overall look. The wood table seems out of place (as does the wood stool).
I am sure it looked much better in California where indoor/outdoor designs are more practical - just does not quite do it in a New York Studio space.
hmmm i'm sorry but all this looks like a typical studio.
I love the tool box though.
Cute! I like the red/grey thing you've got going.
The red and white furniture DOES rock and the table looks like a very nice one. Good for you for hanging on to the things you love long enough to get a foothold in New York. Good luck in your new and improved space.
Some nice pieces -- I like the four photographs hung up in a column by that one door -- but it is crowded. If you have a table in the kitchen, why would you take up so much space with another in the other room? Why not just leave the benches and a small coffee table?
OK -- once you're in that next apartment, you'll probably have to really think about what stuff must go since you'll know what space you're really dealing with. But if you're from California, I can see why it's completely impossible to have stayed in this place very long.
But the colors are great, and I can see where you've been and where you're probably going to end up. The tool chest really is great, and makes me almost want one. Would love to see how that next place looks.
love your patio furniture couch and the pillows. and bowls. hello from san francisco.
you really have a way of piling so much junk into a confined space and making it look like you really tried...but failed and keep failing you will because you must be blind not to see how awful your flat is...
easy there, sy.
I think the pad is adorable. I love the red cushioned patio furniture. Some day it will look really fab on your Hamptons porch or your pre war balcony.
Sy, there's a difference between constructive criticism and meanness. I suggest you learn it.
I'm next on the anti-Sy bandwagon... waaaay out of line, mate.
I don't know if it's the smallest/coolest, but it's always nice to see someone else who has "my" red and white habit. I especially love the vintage lawn furniture...
I like your sense of stuff. Your choice of objects feel warm and comfortable and eclectic and personal, but also reflect a distinctive sensibility. For some reason I like your bedding, your shelves of pictures, your drawings. It doesn't altogether sing because your apartment is too incredibly small, to state the obvious. You are a bigger apartment in a small apartment's body.
All aboard the anti-sy wagon...
Yes, mean Sy.
I think you did well with what you have, but maybe organizing your stuff better would make it easier on the eye. I have the same problem though...I want to keep all of the things I love within eyesight. =)
