Keeping the faith. There are a number of really good companies that produce and sell environmentally sound home products, but Seventh Generation is one of the best, offering almost everything you need under one roof.
Taking their name from the great Iriquois belief that "In our every deliberation, we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations," Seventh Generation sets the lead in producing and making available household cleaners, paper products, bulbs and trash bags that will not compromise our earth's future.
While the products don't always compete with toxic brands in terms of pure cleaning power, they don't hide this fact and are constantly improving what they can do without harming our eco system. We order from them to stock our home and the houses that we rent to others in the summer.

I've been using their paper towels and cleaning fluids in our apartment for about a year now, and I've been very happy with them

The Laundry detergent is real good, my skin problems stopped after using it. My previous detergent was to harh.
The dishwashing liquid is also good.
The paper towels are acceptable but expensive.
The toilet cleaner works, but the fragrance doesn't last

Otherwise I feel good about using their products, which you cannot put a pricetag on.
I really like the idea of the Method brand, which fuses safer ingredients with cool packaging design. I use the hand soap, which I found at DR, but cannot find any other products there. I ordered the laundry soap from their website, but paid almost as much for shipping as for the product! The laundry soap was great, as was the dispenser top on the bottle.
Anybody know where I can get a wider range of this brand in manhattan?

I think mxyplyzyk (never quite positive about that spelling) in the Village and The Terence Conran Shop sell the Method brand. And I have seen it also at Target.
I love the idea of Method, but their dishwashing soap is terrible. Smells lovely, but just does not work. The hand soap is carried in Duane Reade, but I am not sure if they have any other products.
Does Seventh Generation (or any other eco-friendly brand) make a "Soft-scrub" type product?
You can buy them at amazon.com They often have free S&H (on orders over $25) plus no tax
May I humbly propose Dr. Bronner's soap and baking soda, which, when combined in a paste, is a very effective and economical tub cleaner. Rather than buy costly, new eco products, look back to the cleaning recipes of a few generations back. And as for paper towels, I really can't see any eco-friendly use for them. Rags work fine and go to the landfill at a much, much more elderly stage in life than paper towels.

I agree about the Method dish detergent-but it may be due to my gauging the efficacy by suds, which this brand has next to none. Otherwise it seems fine. I am one who doesn't appreciate the packaging. I transfer it to a used Kiehl's bottle with the label removed. I really don't want more advertising to look at in my home. There's more than enough when I walk outside.
