Dept. of Getaways. The office, the streets, even online seems quiet this morning. Everybody is ducking a new responsibility so they can start their weekend early. Thank God, it's finally sunny!
Sorry to keep you online like this, when I know your itching to leave.
Hey, before you turn of the computer, would you mind telling us where your going?

Maxwell,
Have you ever done a poll to see where your readers are from? I think it would be interesting.

We're hanging here, entertaining friends from Darien, CT and grilling on my infamous patio. I never get on an interstate when it's a 3 day weekend. Not if my life depended on it.
I'm going to do...NOTHING! yippie!
I so look forward to doing nothing...
nothing and sleeping...it's just been so long...
I beter stop...or this may be considered something
(something bit via seinfeild)
Up to my parents' cabin on Lake Champlain to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday, his brother's 75 and his two sisters' 78th and 80th birthdays that all fall in May. Burgers 'n beer. Yeah.
Say hi to the D-bags Lori! (I am a d-bag, myself!)
Heading to a wedding on the Vineyard.
I'm planning to force myself to clean out and mainly orgainze my closets, and have my own private "clean sweep", so I will probably find my way down to The Container Store at some point. If I can rope in one of my friends to help me, even if they don't lift a finger, but merely sit there and keep me honest, I'm far more likely to actually make it happen, though.
Me too, Curtis. Going to try to start some much needed Spring Cleaning like Maxwell suggested. And get someone to help put my A/C back in the window in anticipation of warmer weather to come.
Thank God I'm not the only one cleaning this weekend. On Sunday, I emptied the boxes from my storage shelf onto my kitchen counter, with the goal of further editing their contents down. But work demands intervened, and I've been living with a mess for several days.
Also hoping to assemble some personal effects to outfit my new office.
Nesting like crazy this weekend....
Best wishes and good times to all!
Robyn, safe travels. Sounds like a great family gathering! Happy birthday and many more to them all.
Hello from way out west - Seattle area is expected to hit 90+ temp today and close to that tomorrow. Out here at this time of year that's a record breaker. The weekend will be all about relaxing (ahhhhh). Oh, and the malls and theater parking lots will be packed with pasty northwest folks seeking air conditioning (we really don't handle the tiniest heat wave very well out here!).
Hey, Enrique, the Scientologists are actively recruiting in the NYC subway stations now, so we may soon be right behind LA in terms of per capita Scientologists. They put up tables and big signs that say "Stress Tests" and attract TONS of people. They give out copies of Dianetics. It's fascinating.
While so many New Yorkers are fleeing the city, I am escaping the midwest and coming to NYC for the long weekend. I've been collecting my A.T. tips and am looking forward to lots of good theatre, the re-opened MOMA (finally), and shopping.
Fiona--The House of L.Ron is rampant out here. Bilingual recruiters routinely comb East LA with Spanish translations of Dianetics. And there is always some big event going on at the Scientology Celebrity Center in Hollywood. Maybe I should market some t-shirts reading WWRD (What would Ron do?) or WWTD (What would TOM do?). They would probably fly off the shelves of Fred Segal and Kitson.
On topic... Other than traffic school ALL DAY on Saturday (Go, Speed Racer!), sending regrets to all BBQ invites, avoiding the beach and looking forward to nesting for 2 glorious days.
Don't forget WWKD, WWID and WWJD (Kirsty Alley, Isaac Hayes and John Travolta).
jimkk - As of NOW (Saturn-day night, May 29), I have completely emptied the closet that I shall paint; the only one that didn't get painted when I first moved in. I bought an additive to stir into the paint that is supposed to smell like spring air, and hopefully drown out the little bit of cat-litter odor that remains from a previous occupant.
THEN, I shall completely photograph and created some kind of cataloguing system and overhaul the way I store the paint-by-number collection that will once more dwell therein, so that when someone expresses interest in have me do a mural for THEM based on a vintage paint-by-number painting, I'll be able to more easily sift through them by subject matter.
But at the moment they're out of that closet and strewn around my apartment, and so I must escape to a friend's place tonight, and come back tomorrow to paint and organize.
I am - -
Reorganizing all of my file cabinets, and moving the rarely used files down to my storage space in the basement.
Painting my bedroom.
Reorganizing my office, inclding building a daybed there so it can function as a guest room as well.
Stripping an old piece of furniture (if I can get to it.
(Of course, we'll have to see how much I can get too - the files and the painting are done, but...)
(Good times.)
Ugh, forgive the spelling!
