Dept. of Storage. We have been looking for a local installer of RAKKS shelving for awhile, so we were pleased to discover the Shelf Shop via a reader tip.
Founded in 1972, by Allan and Bea Tillis, the Shelf Shop continues to be a family run business (now Bob Lawton and daughter Hilary are in charge) specializing in tension mounted shelving systems. They sell a wide assortment of wall mounted shelving and veneers. You can do it yourself or they will install. (Thanks, Lotswife!) MGR
Lotswife says: Shelf Shop on the upper east side has to be one of my favorite shops. They carry the full line of RAKKS shelves which are basically tension poles that hold up best with lots of weight on them. They're absolutely perfect for rental living as they're portable, easy to put together, and require NO hammering, screwing, or otherwise messing with walls.
Also, the gentleman at the Shelf Shop really made me feel good about my purchase. This is no chain operation, just a simple pop shop.

I have had my George Nelson Rakks shelving systems for over 20 years, have moved with at least 6 times, and it still looks great and works with whatever my current space is. I loved the Shelf Shop store for many years, but since they closed I know their totally awesome installer Guy Campbell has taken over the business as The Shelf Shop Guy - he is the best, has done our fairly complex installation many times and always has done an excellent job. I had a friend use someone a bit cheaper hourly once, and her price wound being double, b/c he didn't have the same level of experience, so it took much longer, he really didn't know what he was doing, and the shelves can be a bit dangerous if not installed properly. Shelf Shop shelves may seem expensive, but when my mother gave them to me, she said you will have them no matter where you live, and it's true - now it seems like a bargain!
