I've been on a few small weekend getaways recently and I can't tell you how nice it is to return after a day of sightseeing or lounging at the beach and find your bed freshly made, the bathroom cleaned and the floor vacuumed. It's pure heaven. There's just something about hotels that complete the relaxation part of vacation. Hence, I love the idea of the Hotel Collection carried at Macy's. It's not a series that will bowl you over with bold colors, crazy patterns and off-the-wall designs, but instead, a series that brings to mind the cool, calm cleanliness of hotels (I of course mean nice, modern hotels, not the shifty kind that have creaky beds and dirty carpets).

The Hotel series at Macy's encompasses several towel collections, a bath accessories series, shower curtains and, my favorite, a sweet little barware collection. Since it's bath month, I'll cover the bath goods first. The Hotel "Deco Jacquard" towels are designed with a mod little circle pattern that says "modern" without knocking you over the head with bold patterns and bright colors. Available in a range of soothing colors that moves from a sandy beige to a smokey blue, the towels are stylish enough to compliment a more contemporary bathroom without overpowering the existing theme.
The Hotel Collection's "Ceramic and Wood" bath accessories collection is a simple way to clean up and organize your sink space. Made of, obviously, ceramic and wood, the collection was inspired by "the best hotels in the world." While it may not be unique in its design or materials, it's still a collection that adds a nice sense of contemporary style to the bathroom. (All under $35).

On to the good stuff- I'm just mad about the Hotel barware collection, which includes adorable ridged glassware like martini glasses and champagne flutes. The collection also includes an ice bucket, tongs and drink shaker made of silver. There's also a cute line of "Spa" glassware that has a distinct rounded, stocky shape. Doesn't sound so elegant, but it's actually quite striking. Not for everyone, but I really like it's stout little design.
You can view the entire Hotel Collection at Macy's online, right here.

Macy's Hotel barware collection? Guilty. I own a couple sets of the double old-fashioned glasses. They were priced pretty well too, if I remember correctly.
I thought they were knocking off Adler until after the jump and I saw the towels. Now, I AM SURE they are knocking him off!
And Adler started by knocking off arts and crafts style pottery...
Besides, Adler does a pretty good job of diffusing his own designs by licensing them to Croscill, Crate and Barrel, le sportsac, Hold Everything, etc. It kind of makes me think less of my older Adler hand-thrown pieces because his designs have become so commodified. I mean, you see so many of his pieces on the Today show and Will and Grace sets that I wonder if he signed a huge product placement deal with NBC...
His stuff just doesn't feel as special as it used to. BUT, being totally hypocritical here, I do love his bath accessories for Croscill, because they are a more utilitarian and affordable take on the design cues of his expensive home decor pieces.
Ah, the commodification of Jonathan Adler. But I guess he and Simon Doonan have to somehow fund their haute posh NYC/Palm Beach lifestyles... And he's still a design force to be reckoned with (i.e. The Parker Palm Springs).
Yeah, yeah... off-topic, I know. (Slow day over here. Sorry.) Shutting up now.
Um, this Hotel line has been around for awhile.
Why is they assumption that THEY knocked off HIM?
Oh yeah, I forgot to make that point, too. I don't really see this line as knock-off at all. I really like it.
...Where can I find replacements for the stem ware? Thanks, Rex
