Just after we'd witnessed the end of Mid-C Modern over at the New York Times and the rise of the Lenny Kravitz FAB style, along comes William Sonoma Home's new catalog with a much changed look.
Gone are the drab middle of the road natural colors of last year, instead they are sporting the new high color, high contrast look of FAB and calling it "Modern Glamour."
Mind you, that's the cover only.
They haven't had time to change their whole line, but the trend is clear. Soon we'll all want cherry red chairs, white desks and black lamps. MGR

All I have to say is, if Mid-C is no longer on the up and up, I will finally be able to afford it. Thank fricken god: a molded plywood chair for LESS than $600! It's gonna happen.
Got this in the mail the other day. "Mama like..."
are you kidding? did you actually see the first William Sonoma home? There wasn't any MCM to be seen in the first catalog. This catalog isn't any different than the previous one! What's the fuss about?

I think Max was cross-referencing a West Coast article about the trend away from MCM, not necessarily saying WSH had been and wasn't.
But I do agree with him that there is some difference here from WSH catalogs past... most notably a collected American/Hollywood look. A little less Ralph Lauren, a little more Parrish-Hadley goes Hollywood.
Check out the new Wynn hotel and casino in Vegas for FAB gone crazy. Some of the rooms look absolutely gaudy, but some of them are pretty inspirational.

Furniture by Mitchell Gold (+ Bob Williams) by any other name is still Mitchell Gold (+ Bob Williams) furniture. I'm already bored with the "new" WS direction.
isn't there a home catalog?
