Normally we wouldn't step foot inside Macy's...but CK, one of our newest correspondents, wrote in yesterday with the following "good couch news:"
This weekend I just purchased a beautiful [couch] at Macy's for about $800 said and done which included tax and the 7-year protective warranty. It's simple, well-made and came in a variety of fabrics with a very low (only about $50) charge to choose a non-stock fabric. The couch came in 81", 73", and 65" long lengths...perfect for any size apartment.CK did warn us that some of the other Macy's couches were "not-so-hot," and that her couch "is going to take up to 16 weeks to come in." Look, we're all for practical and economical, and we'd even make the trip to Paramus, NJ for the right couch at the right price. But we're not going to do that without pictures, and, sadly, Macy's Furniture Gallery is nearly impossible to find online. That leaves us liking CK's final advice best: "Oh, and I also saw some great ones at Mitchell Gold in the ABC store in Dumbo. Some fantastic fabrics and many of the couches were available as a loveseat." That sounds like very sound advice, and it prompted us to dig up this interesting page from InteriorDesign.net about the DUMBO design district. For the record, there is no ABC in Paramus, though there is one in South Hackensack. Who knew? OHR
