Deep in the Metro section this morning, we spied a lovely bit of news. Governor Pataki signed legislation yesterday requiring all New York public schools to purchase and use "green" cleaning products, beginning September 1, 2006.
Though a year away, this will certainly give green cleaning products a big boost and provide enough financial incentive for regular folk and companies to take note. Additionally, it means that the this generation of New York schoolchildren will grow up knowing what Green is all about. MGR

that's great.
i use seventh generation cleaning spray-- it really cleans and it doesn't smell...
it's perfect for cleaning air conditioner screens too
peace
Green cleaning products don't work as well, although I'm sure they're safer - especially for workers, who breathe most of the fumes.
I'm not against the green cleaning products. I've done plenty of cleaning jobs, and i start to worry about all the bleach fumes messing up my lungs. It just seems that the Seventh Generation stuff, even with a lot more elbow grease employed, doesn't do the same job as the traditional poisonous stuff.
Any opinions? Is there a better product I should try?
That whole discussion has happened here before...
i think it's a great idea. the only thing is, i doubt it will do much to teach schoolkids "what Green is all about" unless it's the kids themselves who are doing the cleaning. otherwise, they're not likely to ever even see what kind of cleaning products are used.
MojoJoJo--you might want to try some of the Method line of products (they've been discussed here before too). sorry, i've never tried any seventh generation stuff, so i can't help w/ comparisons. you should definitely check out the archives to see what other recommendations people have made here in the past--i remember one thread about Method products that had quite a number of people posting (mostly positive reviews).
I would love to speak to anyone who is interested in ecologically safe products. I have a business that specializes in cleaning and bath and beauty products that is totally committed to health and wellness.
Hi Guys,
I agree that the seventh generation stuff does not work. However, I came across a company that manufactures safer products for us and the environment that is also more effective that the regular grocery store brands. Bleach is definately a no no. contact me if you want to hear more. better yet, the company is so confident that you will absolutely love their products that they have an unconditional money back guarantee.phillipwhite@optonline.net

Great job on getting rid of toxins that do affect our children in the schools. Your thinking is right on the money. A safer environment for learning needs to be supported and NY schools is headed in the right direction but with the wrong product. Please visit melaleuca.com and you will learn about a non toxic product that is cheaper than grocery brand products and IT WORKS!
All the BEST!
