Q: We are looking to buy the IKEA Singlar crib for 69.99. It's listed on the IKEA website but you cannot order it online and we cannot find it in stock anywhere in our state of Maryland or the surrounding states. (continued...)
We would really like to not spend more than this on a crib as we don't know if we will have more children and our budget is tight. Can you help us find this crib? We need a crib with a small foot print and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Any help or advice you have to find it would mean wonders. Thanks so much for your time.

Editor: Have you considered the Gulliver which is in the same price range and looks to be in stock near you? Readers, leave your suggestions for Katrina in the comments - thanks!

Shaw's Original Fir...
There are a few available in the South Philly store which may not be that faraway depending on where you are in MD.
Also, if you call a store that has it in stock they can ship it to you directly.
I wanted to offer a warning: Once your baby hits the weight limit and you need to drop the mattress all the way down, do be aware it's quite tough on the back with the Sniglar, since it's already so low to the ground. However, you may luck out and have one of those babies you can just plop into the crib wide awake and who lulls herself to sleep! If that's the case, this won't be as much of a concern. Good luck!
Aw, we have this crib in stock in Portland, OR. Not much help, eh? Hope you find one near you!
I'm guessing the reason you can't find it anywhere is that it's been recalled. The same crib appealed to me as well, but as far as I see there hasn't been a new model since the recall. Good luck! http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml11/11135.html
The recall was for cribs up until June 2010 and there were zero injuries reported. It was a preventative measure for the mattress support. The issue was resolved with Sniglar cribs currently at Ikea.
i've found that the best time to shop at ikea is on thrusday nights. they're stocked up for the weekend, but hardly anyone is in the store (and that's in chicago). that is the only night that i've been able to snag those items that quickly go out of stock. good luck!
I was looking to buy the same crib and finally gave up on just watching the website. It was always on there, but it said it was out in EVERY store on the list in the country with no idea when it would be in stock. I had an employee at my local store look it up in their system and here's what he told me:
The crib is not likely to be in stock according to their system until after the end of their fiscal year, which happens to be in August. Even then, it's not a guarantee that they'll get it in. So, if your baby is due before then, you better start looking for a different crib.
The natural wood finish Gulliver is almost twice the price of the Sniglar, but the white one is marked at $99. HTH!
I have this brand new crib used only for 4mths in BRooklyn, NY if that helps. Happy to sell it for half their retail price? ShannonKelly82@gmail.com mattress included!
Thanks everyone again we were looking to not spend more than the $ 69 on a crib. Really wanted to avoid 99 if at all possible. Well we lucked out after posting this question we wandered into our local Walmart and found 4 of these crib's

stacked by the door marked down to $69.99 and when we got to the register it rang up for only $ 25.00! The dark brown version was still in the back for $99.00. Too good to be true but simple lines and you cant beat the price.
I had a similar problem when I found something on IKEA's website, wanted it so terribly bad, but the nearest store is 3 1/2 hours away. Several stores told me that they could not ship directly to a consumer, even though they had the product in stock and even though I begged them to. Finally, I found that there are only 2 IKEA stores in the US that you can purchase product over the phone and they will ship to you... I believe it was the Houston and Oregon locations (probably need to double check with that). They have operators to take your order and ship.
This happened to me in December 2010, so they may have since allowed shipping.
Good luck!
We went through the exact same thing and then, miracles of miracles, someone on local parents email list was giving one away! So try Craigslist and the like. It was a great crib. Height was fine for me (I'm 5'7").
