Name: Jason
Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
I'm super proud of our 600 square foot apartment. We bought it last May and, I think, have done a great job maxing out such small quarters! It's pretty eclectic, with a focus on textures, patterns and various materials.
Thanks, Jason!

Love the striped walls. Is that wallpaper or paint?
This was my FAVORITE during the Smallest, Coolest this year!
great space!
I loved this entry in the Small Cool contest! The neutral colors and the various textures added a lot of depth and interest while not overwhelming the space. Very inspirational!
Hey thanks, friends!
What an unexpected post! What a nice way to start a Monday.
karynjeanne -
It's paint! A couple coats of Benjamin Moore CC530 (Brandon Beige, matte) then tape it off in big 10" stripes and slap on a couple coats of high gloss urethane. Easy breezy.
Easy breezy?? NICE job.
How'd you do the floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall curtains so well? Looks fantastic. I'm trying to do the same thing in my apt, but the curtain rod bows in the middle!
yummy.
Thanks, EAM! I should say, our hired painters did most of the work. Although I was pushing them along to finish before move-in-day, so rolled on the urethane myself. They did the taping of the stripes (AKA: the hard part.) Soooo, sorta easy-breezy?? ;)
MattSF - Again, we paid. I never called this a DIY-apartment. Haha. The hardware is pretty serious, because these velvet corduroy drapes are heavy MF'ers.
There are two tracks installed into the ceiling, one for drapes, the other for sheers. Mostly hidden behind the top hem of each. They are deeply burrowed into the concrete ceiling with very intense plugs and screws. In the 10' span, the tracks are bolted in about 12 places. For reals.
I love the focus on the huge windows - they make a small space feel much larger, and the (totally fantastic) curtains keep the window-wall from overwhelming the room. I agree with other comments that the stripes are totally sweet.
this was one of my favorites in the competition. great work! the custom drapes really add to the tailored look.
Oh, those drapes are just perfect. I want to Scarlett O'Hara them and wear them to a ball.
Echoing the comments above, love the walls! But I also love the use of more dramatic colors and textures. It it non competing and looks put together and cozy! Very inspiring! Thanks!
Thanks everybody!
It's so nice to hear after settling-in and forgetting to notice the little details.
This blog post gives you some close-ups and detail shots. (Don't mind the little photos, I recently revamped my layout.)
I loved this one from the Small Cool Contest! Great job.
I wish we could see even MORE photos!
Yay Canada! This reminds me of when I was living in a hotel. Gorgeous but never felt like home.
Hey emmelemm, there's lots in the link above. Enjoy.
And pinkchair - I get that, but keep in mind, all the stuff in there is ours, so it feels very much like home to us! Stuff we've been collecting for years and years!
I love the way you've mixed all those rich tones; it just feels very sumptuous, like a fantastic (and very expensive) chocolate bar. The mix of matte and shiny, hard and soft, gives the illusion more depth to the living room. But my favorite is that oval mirror: such a sophisticated shape.
I love the idea of using urathane for the shine instead of trying to deal with eggshell and gloss paint. Awesome tip. thanks!
love it. reminds me a bit of carrie's apt in sex & the city, with a more masculine touch.
Jason - congrats buddy! It's great to see your place on AT. I agree with MattSF - those curtains look the shiz! I like the whole circular mirror breaking up the horizontal striped wallpaper, too. Neat work.
Honestly it is a beautiful place and i really like it.... but..... where is it that i'm going to actually sit and eat?
Hey manu_pty, there are bar stools in the kitchen and the hint of our small bistro table that seats four there in one of the photos. Works for us! I'm sitting at that table now!
Thanks Will! Exactly my point with the round on stripes!
Thanks everyone.
So appreciated. And I kinda see what you mean, midcentmod. Clever.
It feels so calm soothing. Your colors are amazing, it's like seeing the world in sepia tones.
i want to come over for coffee!
So gorgeous and inspirational, this makes me proud to be a fellow Canadian. I am loving the contrasts and textures. Happy Canada Day tomorrow!
It's gorgeous! You have a great collection of things and stored/presented so well!
Where is the couch and book case from?
BTW,
GOOOOO CANADA! Happy Canada Day Folks!
Aw, thanks!
Contrasts and textures - Love that it shows!
The couch is a *Gus couch, local designer.
The bookcase is from Craigslist - An old powder-coated steel adjustable like you'd find in an elementary school library. Such a good find!
I am so envious of the book case find! Did you have to do any work on it?
I love GUS, especially their huge blowout sales..which sadly they did not do this year.
I have a fetish for storage spaces and book cases! What a BEAUT!!!!
It looks like you have a great city light view too!
My blog has lots of photos of our view, Matt. Feel free to pop over and visit.
The shelves were $150.
6' wide by 7' tall. Amazing. In MINT condition. Perfection.
WHAT??!!??? ok... thats amazing!!!!!
