Why I chose these colors for the nursery:
This nursery is a blend of our style and color tastes. We love clean contemporary spaces with vibrant color. We wanted to use blue, but not the traditional baby blue. Because the room has bright white trim, we chose a deep royal blue to provide maximum contrast and depth to the walls. The color is bright and bold during the day, but deep and rich at night.
We made the art over the crib with a wonderful pop of orange to spice up the room a bit. Our baby stares at it whenever he is in his crib. To keep the room calm we used softer colors in the bedding and other accents around the room. We made the crib bedding from Dwell bed sheets in stripe and dot patterns accented with light green trim. The nursery is a wonderful space to spend time in, day or night.
Two Good Color Tips:
1) Go bold. Choose a color a shade or two darker than your first instinct. Everyone always tries to play it safe, but color should be fun. Take a risk on a more intense shade and you will be pleasantly surprised. It is only paint and can be redone if it does not work out.
2) Make custom art to compliment your color palette. Use inexpensive canvas and acrylic paints. Acrylic craft paint comes in hundreds of colors and is easy to cleanup. Bring your swatches to the craft store to match colors. If you are not artistic, keep it simple like we did in this room. We just enlarged the pattern from the bedding and overlaid the baby's nickname in a contrasting color.
