It's no secret that we derive a lot of inspiration from hotel design, (we've written about it here, here and here) so we were pretty psyched to learn that Ace Hotel New York will be open on February 1. The hotel already has some serious buzz. We've written about Ace Hotel Portland, and it looks like the hotel will be infused with a similar rocker vibe, but with a serious nod to its New York location.
Ace Hotel New York is hotelier Alex Calderwood's first East Coast venture. (The other Ace Hotels are in Palm Springs, Seattle and Portland.) Roman & Williams designed the interiors in the 247 rooms. The couple's clients have included Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Stiller, and they just did the Royalton Hotel lobby. For a peak at their work, check out this 1stdibs feature.
The hotel is on the corner of Broadway and 29th Street, and the Garment District location is referenced in the antique sewing bins used to stash shoes and the room's pipe clothes racks are inspired by rolling carts of clothes. We love the vintage furniture, retro fixtures and black accent walls. There are turntables in every room with a selection of music curated by Other Music. The folks from one of our favorite restaurants, Spotted Pig are running the hotel restaurant.
Although, we haven't seen the inside (yet!), W Magazine got a sneak peak.
