Like its somewhat doomed heroine, Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola's new stylized commercial for Stella Artois has us flipping over the 1960's-inspired mod set.
With modishly stylish quirks like a recessed rotating lounge area and remote controlled furniture, directors Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola really hit the nail on the head when dreaming up the high-tech, mid-century bachelor pad featured in the charming, new Stella Artois commercial. From the ceiling and rust-colored floor coverings, to the teak paneling and fieldstone walls, the set design seems to be giving a tip of the hat to the 1962 Playboy Townhouse (which we recently featured here on Apartment Therapy!). Now, we may not necessarily run out to grab a Stella after viewing this ad, but we are certainly scheming and dreaming on ways we can get our hands on that two-in-one revolving couch.

Over the top -- but totally fun! Shagalicious!
I love the retro vibe.
The movie references here are numerous:
Rock Hudson's apartment in "Pillow Talk"
Ursula Andress' apartment in the original "Casino Royale"
Ewan McGregor's apartment in "Down with Love"
Goldfinger's Kentucky lair in "Goldfinger" (as well as pretty much any of Blofeld's lairs in any other Bond film)
Gary Oldman's office in "The Fifth Element"
And I remember a movie where someone fell into a sofa that flipped over like that and disappeared - but the name of the film escapes me...
Just like a Wes Anderson vehicle to depict women as expendable; considering the rest of Stella's most recent ads where the women suddenly go out of focus and are substituted for A PRODUCT, you and Stella are a match made in heaven. Cheers Wes to your misogyny!
Judging by the comments here it appears the rest of the people were blinded by the wood grains, gadgets and furniture. You are in good company Wes! Cheers to lemmings!
hilarious, i love it.
Wow, gig007, chill. If the man and woman were reversed, it would be just as funny. Would you then be complaining about men treated as objects?
Don't worry gigi007, life gets better after grad school.
gigi007... Sounds like a Bond girl.
Beer companies have been using women, sex, and womanly shapes (seriously) to sell beer since forever. Singling out Stella Artois or Wes Anderson (or AT readers who like this ad, and I'm one of them) seems rather silly.
Anyway, I'm off to repress some wimmens now, and then follow my friends off a cliff.
Stella is my go-to beer. I've always enjoyed the humor and class of their advertising.
stella is my favorite beer and wes anderson is my favorite director.
oh...and i love vintage decor...so this is my fantasy world!
