Favorite Source: My favorite source is Flax Art supply in San Francisco. That's where I got the paper for the desk. It was probably the cheapest thing, but I think it's what really makes the room.

What inspired you? My inspiration came mostly from lots of nights going through design magazines at Borders. I wanted grey walls, and the first thing that I knew was going in the room was an orange Three by Three magnetic strip. I tried to blend everything in with those two colors.

...Ikea in Emeryville had a mock office that used a curtain rod with clips to hold architectural drawings. I saw that and knew I had to incorporate a similar idea somehow. I didn't want just a plain desktop, and my first idea was the Eames Dot pattern, which I love. I couldn't find a piece of that fabric for any reasonable price in the size I needed, but I'm happy with the pattern I ended up going with.

Great Tip: The desk is just plywood built in to the room. I found some cool
wrapping paper to put on top, and put a piece of glass over it.

Old school mouse pad with an optical mouse?

I like your desktop design idea, though I think the pattern makes it seem too busy. I can definitely relate to devouring the design mags at Borders ;-)

I definitely like the creative touch on the desk, but I think you could add a lot by covering the side, the wood color really sticks out.

michael, what i really like about your entry is that you seem to have thought carefully about ways to incorporate elements that really speak to you personally, that you're really excited about. that's really inspiring. two suggestions-- what about another chair? a fancy, (yet comfortable) chair might amp up the room's WOW factor. and what about an eames-esque roman shade for the window, instead of the current blinds? or something like this? anyway, best luck with it! phoebe

Regarding the mouse pad, an optical mouse won't work on glass. It will work fine on a sheet of paper, though.
