Unity Building Penthouse New York Times 08.31.08

We noticed this building immediately when we moved to Montreal. It's the Unity Building on Rue de La Gauchetiere, with that unusual, unmistakable, oversized cornice. Sunday, the penthouse loft inside was featured in the New York Times International Real Estate section...

Aaron shared the loft with us this morning over at ATNY, but we wanted to bring it to the attention of our Montreal readers, too.

Many of the lofts in the Unity Building are rentals and we've seen them priced around $2000 per month. Has anyone ever been inside any of the units?

It feels cold and sterile for a home. I think it would be fantastic in a retail use, though....a salon and spa, a fashion house, a photographers studio, an art studio.

Sigh....before it was converted into condos, the Unity building was a busy hive of offices and work spaces for creative types like architects, photographers and artists.

It's a lovely space, poorly decorated.

The fine architecture and beautiful windows are ruined with all that clutter. I'm not a fan.

Agree with LuvMyPad on all the clutter. I at first glance thought it was a furniture showroom. A bad furniture showroom, but definitely not a home.

I'm with rhiana, not crazy about how it's decorated. Looks too busy in there.
