Look! Modern Murphy Bed

OK, now if you truly live in a closet, as many claim to, you obviously need one of these. By day, this modern take on the murphy bed features a long desk that can accommodate all your home office needs. By night, the back wall of the office space folds down to reveal a twin mattress. The office table simply slides down to ground level, so you don't have to remove any of your heavy office peripherals.

Smart Beds, the company who makes this bad boy, says on its site, "When we started importing this bed from Lino's son Francesco, we thought for sure the college student would be our best market. They didn't give a damn! We have sold a lot to home offices and sun rooms." Sun rooms... ok. We think this could be a good idea for a guest room/home office. What do you think?

Wow they should put those in dorms instead of those bulky desks and beds.

My guess is that you supply your own mattress.

My concern with this is the cables...i mean how do i string the power cables to an outlet without them getting caught?

They've quite a few neat European folding beds, including one that folds down from a bar. The lack of interest from college students doesn't surprise me, Murphy beds are always expensive, 'specially these Euro models.

I came across this post after searching for "murphy bed in little apartments." This product seems fairly interesting, but does it come in other sizes? I would want a queen and not a twin.

My husband and I have been searching the market for both a Green murphy bed and also one that is reasonably priced, but still looks great. I will admit, a lot harder to find than we originally thought.

I had a glimmer of hope when I saw this product, but it seems a little complicated to set up. We did also find this company called Old Creek, who makes green beds, the one we are draw to is called the Noir.

Any thoughts on this one?

i've been looking at the website for god knows how long marveling at these cool beds! they're hella expensive, and i question the comfort of the mattresses but they're just so damn cool! i really love the bunk beds and the "Twirly Bed" which is bed/bookcase/table.
it's like furniture transformers!

Of course college students aren't interested. College students are interested in anything costing less than $50, not more than $3,000.

Not to beat a dead horse - but the kind of college kids who have parents that can and will afford to spring for this bed don't live in small dorm rooms :P

Personally, I think this is ugly as a desk and a bed. Also, of course college students aren't interested, regardless of the pricetag, because most college students would prefer to be on their bed and using their computer at the same time.

What a great idea! I wish I would have had one of these murphy wall beds when I was going through my first year of college. I could barely walk through my dorm room without bumping my hip against the wall.
