How do you make sure the plant weight doesn't tip over the bench?
First association: a plant growing out of a toilet.
Not digging it.
Nice palm--I've seen several variations (some from Japan) of the same idea but with a bench.
I would be worried about someone sitting or putting weight on the plant end.
Other sources: I saw a photo from the 60's where a potted plant grew through the slats of the Nelson bench. I believe Room and Board had a square coffee table that accomodated a plant in the center.
Great... so now it's even more convenient for kitty to use it as a litter box.
You're really concerned it will tip?
