I recently decided to weed out the fraction of the books I have that aren't in boxes (from three moves). I decided I could use my bookshelves for displaying other things and holding art supplies. I'm actually taking them to Half Price Books to see if I can recoup any cost at all. But it felt good, weeding out what I didn't like/would never read again/could get from the library vs. the ones I'd still not read and want to and am willing to keep out for reference or display.
Of course, I have boxes and boxes in the garage, but eventually I'll get down there too.
About a year ago I sold off 99% of my CD collection, but held on to collectibles. I'm now ready to get rid of those too, I'm far enough from the events of collecting for me to feel silly about it and consider the items practically worthless to me now anyway.
Fiona, if I ever have to throw stuff overboard, my shelf of old World of Interiors will be one of the last things to go. I'd get rid of my bed & my TV before I'd give up those. Oh, wait, I already DID get rid of my bed & TV...
