Small spaces are our focus, but even we flinched at this narrow landmark house in Greenwich Village...
At nine-and-a-half feet in width and about 950 total square feet, it's full of small space solutions suited for even the very high end of NYC's market. Judging from the above photo and the floorplan, it looks like the kitchen burners are set in a very shallow countertop. We're thinking it's a single row of burners instead of the typical two-deep we see on most off-the-shelf cooktops. Love this move in what is surely a tight kitchen.

Had to smile when I saw the phrase "Dutch style" in the RE blurb ... there are houses even narrower than this in Holland. Anyway, it looks charming and think of all the lovely ghosts that you'd be sharing space with in that place!
The only drawback, and this has nothing to do with its narrowness, is that the only windows are in the front and the rear. Luckily, the ones in the front at least look very large!
You know, I think we actually walked by this house last week while visiting the city. My comment was that as muggles, we must have had a glimpse into Sirius Black's home by accident.
My apartment on the UWS was only 8-feet wide, so 9.5 is a comparative luxury...!
home body: the real estate listing floor plan indicates the house is only 8'-2" wide inside, so it's actually pretty close to what you lived in.
I'm betting home body's pad is not listed at 2.75 million.
interesting that the photographer william steig lived there...and that his sister in law, margaret mead also lived there. it's a shame that you'd never get those stairs through a code check today!
How did you ever get a photo of it without TOURISTS?? This house is descended upon daily by bus loads of tourists (just two blocks away is the building used as the exterior shot on "Friends"!) Eeeeek!

This reminds me SF's Chinatown, where they've filled in some alleys with apartment buildings. There's actually a wonderful restaurant occupying all three floors of one such alley apartment building in Chinatown. The hostess/waitress shouts orders down the spiral staircase. Does anyone else know this place?
I gotta say, there are things that are not particularly well laid out, like the kitchen, the stair, and the basement bathroom and closets.

That's a comparatively sweet deal for a triplex garden apt. in Greenwich Village. I think 2 mil is pushing it, though. It's a gorgeous place!
