We loved this DIY! It's simple, but smart. Often DIY projects consist of embellishing an object. In this case, AT reader Biba took a cheap vintage lamp from eBay that looks bound for a dorm room and turned it something classic and sophisticated.

Tools:
brown spray paint
new drum shade
Cost:
less than £20
Biba had been craving the Tris Lamp from Ligne Roset but at £356, it was out of reach.
So she created her own. The transformation was pretty simple. She painted the legs with dark brown spray paint and swapped out the Ikea lampshade in favor of a simple drum shade. It took some persistence for Biba to find the perfect shade, but her work paid off and she found one at TK Maxx for £9.99 (Apparently TK Maxx is the British version of TJ Maxx.) Thanks Biba for sending your project in!
If you have a great DIY send it to newyork at apartmenttherapy dot com or enter the February Jumpstart project.

Where does one find a drum shade like that? I have been looking all over!!
I love it. It's like a make-under! Very sophisticated.
Just Shades on Spring St has a really good selection.

Another amazing DIY tripod floorlamp, this one with a chic wooden base: http://stylenorth.ca/blog/2008/09/diy-tripod-lamp/
good work and it looks very nice and professional
I like painting he base. The original shade was terrific and unique. I think I've seen similar to the newer version at CB2 or one of the other chain stores.
