We really want to take a road trip before the end of the summer and we're not looking forward to being cramped up in a car. We found a pretty cool alternative that won't leave you wanting to pull over at every rest stop to stretch your legs or buy another soda.
Designer Rob Villa was inspired by 1950's Airstreams and that's certainly obvious.

• 1 To avoid damaging leaks, the caravan is constructed from a "lightweight foam core body which sits on top of a steel tubular chassis."
• 2 The main living area contains a sofa, foldable dining table and the stackable chairs provide more seating options.
• 3 The bedroom is located above the main living area via an electronically operated pop up roof.
• 4 The bathroom is equipped with the usual amenities; shower, sink and toilet.
Would you take a road trip in this modern caravan?

Shaw's Original Fir...
I love the design in the bathroom. Does this have any kind of "kitchen" in it? In my opinion, a fridge is a must in a caravan.
Very cute, and probably more comfortable than the original. Here are some more design updates you might enjoy:

i'd take a trip in it. :)
Must you weasel in your own agenda into a conversation about the caravan?
Unless the law has changed recently, having a caravan won't change the effects of being cramped up in a car or having to pull over at rest stops - it is against the law to ride inside a caravan while the vehicle pulling it is in motion.
VERY nice. Maybe I could convince my boyfriend with one that's this stylish.

I would totally take a trip in this. I was intrigued and found a few more views. Not only does the top pop up for a sleeping area but the back extends for more area in the main space. There is a little kitchen too.

By the way, it's BOB Villa, not Rob...
Doh! Sorry, it *is* Rob, not Bob...my bad! Found a few sites that said it was designed by Bob, then found the original posting and it is Rob after all!
very nice. Never thought that I am a camper person but I can be with this.
price?
Heck with road trips, I would take this thing to the grocery store!
Actually, a few states allow riding in trailers.
From AAA-

But from a safety perspective, you are so much better off either renting a car or van large enough to stretch your legs or stopping more and enjoying the chance to see some local sights or scenic vistas.
I don't have accident or fatality statistics on passengers in tow-behinds (possibly because it is a limited number to begin with) but as someone who has taken an accident investigation course and seen a few too much of what happens with people aren't properly restrained... I'd hate to be the EMT/Cop/firefighter who gets to deal with an accident involving passengers in a trailer like this.
It is totally cute though.

Are you kidding? I'd live in it!
Follow the link through to the full collection of pictures and you'll find it's irresistible. I love the efficiency of the pop-up sleeping loft, and the ingenious retractable deck at the rear... I'm assuming that the supports pull out from the underside then the decking rolls out from storage within the van. I even love the microscopic bathroom!

Me too!!!!
Are they for sale?
Price and where can it be bought?
Or just a design for now?
Doh, after looking at the pictures on his site, especially the one with the car, they're pretty clearly computer mock-ups. Oh well, I'm sure I couldn't afford it anyway.
