Green design is a lot about versatility. The ability for a space to be flexible to both purpose and decor determines how sustainable it is in the end. This project, undertaken over at Nibs, takes one fireplace mantel and makes it over 12 times to show how inventiveness and creativity can make any space into something else completely.
Martha B. over at Nibs describes the site of her project:
The fireplace mantel I’m using for this series is part of an 1800′s addition to a colonial era house. It was boarded up when the house converted to coal, as indicated by the floor grate, and later to baseboard heating. Luckily all the original millwork has been preserved. The fireplace & woodwork are painted bright white with walls in a contrasting apple green. Now let’s decorate the mantel!
I love the way she is able to take a simple boarded up fireplace from a bedroom to an office to a kitchen prep space to a living room with easy cosmetic changes.
