No matter how much we love our homes, animal lovers realize that some concessions have to be made for our pets. Dogs need things to lay on and things to chew almost as much as they need things to bark at incessantly for no reason.
Unfortunately, they're not often quite as good as children at putting their toys away, so most dog owners are used to having random toys scattered hither and dither around the house. To take away some of the sting of disorder, check out some of these aesthetically pleasing dog toys.
• Mustache Dog Toy — Moody Pet $9.34
While your dog will inevitably defeat this toy by chewing up the wrong ends, you'll at least be able to take pictures of him with a great hipster 'stache.
• Kong Dog Toy — Petco $6.29-$18.39
I never really noticed what great lines a Kong dog toy has. These toys have hollow centers so you can put food inside, and the dog will spend the rest of the day making sure he's gotten it all out.
• Crochet Squeak Toy — Martha Stewart $9.59
These toys are cute enough you could keep them around even if you didn't have a dog. And in purely anecdotal information, my sister's little spaniel has had much less luck destroying his crocheted chick than he had destroying other plush dog toys.
• Dog Perignon Champagne Toy — Pampered Dog $9.99
A plush, chewable Champagne bottle for your dog. Classy!
• Eggplant Toy — Wagsandwiggles $9.99
Eggplants are possibly the funniest fruit, don't you think?
• Robot Dog Toy — Mungo & Maud $25.91
As awesome as this crocheted robot is, at $25.91 I'd probably be tempted to keep it for myself.
• Striped Doxy — Wagsandwiggles $10.99
This fabric dog toy probably won't last forever, but it's sure cute.
• Rope Knot Dog Toy — Multi Pet $13.23
This dog probably lives in Montauk.
• Dinosaur Nylabone — Nylabone $7.57
I never realized Nylabone made dinosaurs, and this all-white version is epic. Goodness, at this point I just want to put all the dog toys on my mantle and the dog can go ahead and have my shoes.

White Enamel Flatwa...
"Aesthetically pleasing" for those few seconds before the dog chews it I suppose.
Having "toys" laying around the house is too true. We gave our 100lb lab pointer mix a giant bone (cow femur maybe?) a while back (he seems to destroy just about anything else), and it is a constant battle to keep it out of our dining room. It's as if he waits for me to pick it up and move it to his room so that he can go get it not 30 seconds later and correct me on where it should go...the dining room.
Anything crocheted would last about 15 seconds with my dog. What a waste of materials that would be.
I lOVE the Kong toy. Great for stuffing with peanut butter and has yet to be destroyed and we've had it forever. Also, that rope does look really sturdy. Often times I find that rope toys can come apart and suddenly my dogs are flossing their teeth/swalling bits of string. But some ropes do last and that one above looks like some good quality rope, and you're right, it IS an aesthetically attractive toy! haha :) Thanks for the posting!
we have 2 kongs and (used to) own the dinosaur. The kong is still in great shape as my doodle knows it's a container for his peanut butter, not a chew toy. He loves nylabones and there's 3 hanging around the house at all times. They go in rotation, depending on his mood but the dinosaur is a great shape and seems to keep him interested.
I bought the moustache ball for my boyfriend's dog (black lab). I don't think it lasted more than an hour before she and the golden lab that was also living there chewed off both sides of the moustache. It was meant as a gag gift so I wasn't too heart broken.
the kong is one of two toy my dog doesn't destroy within an hour. West paw is a great brand that lasts! they will replace the toy if your dog destroys it! and are eco friendly.

Kong is the best.
Stay away from rope. Unless you want to be pulling poop strings out of your dogs butt.
Someone at a local pet shop introduced me to antlers. These are amazing. Way less messy than rawhides.
Currently on the living room floor is an elk antler, wubba, a couple of shredded skinneeez and a ball. I buy my dog what he likes and what will last more than 5 seconds. The furthest extent I go to when it comes to aesthetics is picking the color option I like better. Sorry, but quality, durability and function are far more important than anything else. If they look ugly on my floor, who cares? The dog lives here, too. I can put them away if I'm having company, but even that is primarily so nobody is tripping on anything.
This post isn't complete without mentioning the Humunga Tongue:

You left out my favorite: Larry the Lobster!

I have to say, those stuffed rats they sell at Ikea are surprisingly durable. My vet friend recommended them, and sure enough, it took weeks for my Boston Terrier to destroy one.
Many years ago Todd Oldham designed some really super looking dog chew toys. I bought some to display on my bookcase and I didn't even have a dog at the time. I still have them... my dog isn't allowed anywhere near them!
I'm also a Kong fan - we have the traditional one, and a bone, which has wholes in the ends for treats. They are easy to clean, and last forever. I love the rope toys too - you can get them in almost any colour, and it's actually good as a flossing device for dogs. It's not a chew toy though, so the rope is for supervised play only.
The antler chews are AWESOME!!!! They last forever, keep the dog busy, and they are great for their teeth. As a bonus they don't get all soggy and gross like raw hide. I've had one for over a year, and it still has life in it. One friend recommended soaking in broth for extra flavour, so I'll have to try that.
Although not intended for a chew toy, I just purchased a couple interactive puzzles for my dog. She has to move some of the parts around to get to a treat. She loves it! Highly recommend for dogs who need to be busy all the time!
I just want to warn folks about the Kong. If your dog has the ability to tear apart toys, and expands on the opening at the end of the Kong, it doesn't take much for the toy to get completely wedged on the lower jaw of the dog. I know from experience. I do not recommend that toy for any dog, regardless of how aesthetically pleasing it is.
My dogs have about 2 huge baskets full of toys but I usually buy them at yard sales or at a Value Village. Squeaky toys are usually gifts from friends, but those have to "rationed" (in order to preserve my own sanity and have the toys last longer than 1 day).
Some toys are permanently in "hospital" (i.e. those that are torn and the suffing is coming out - may I will fix them, maybe not) and there is a large basket in the living room (the contents of which are all over the floor when I return from work) with toys currently in circulation. I never buy anything with glassy or plastic eyes because for some odd reason my dogs really like to rip those out as soon as possible and swallow them.
My cousin gifted us that moustache ball for our little jack russell... he chewed through it in minutes! It's a great product, he just has jaws of steel. NOTHING survives him.
$26 for a crocheted robot that my dogs would destroy in seconds...nah.
I need to go find the dinosaur nylabone though.
