Minimalist. Streamlined. Utilitarian. Far too often, our workplaces are all function and no fun. Think of the cliche image of an office building: a featureless cube farm meant for productivity, not pleasing visuals. Coming home should be a treat; both a mental and physical escape, and reward for all of your hard work at the end of the day. And nothing says "treat" like the aesthetic indulgence of some Hollywood Regency style.

With this design style, the name of the game is glamour. The Golden Era of Hollywood in the 1920's and 30's brought about a passion for all things luxe, both on the screen and off.

Every design element works together to create an overall luxurious treat for the senses, with rich velvet fabrics, shiny lacquer furniture that's low to the ground, reflective brass and glass, chinoiserie and uninhibited, colorful patterns. But despite the opulent accents, there's no stuffiness that you might come by with more formal or traditional styles. The combination of bright pops of color and room to add personal touches should make your space feel like a fun place to gather.

If you're just getting into the style, there can be some concern about things looking a little...overboard. Luckily, a lot of pieces that can be categorized as Hollywood Regency work well with other kinds of decor: a glitzy brass etagere works well in a Mid-century modern home, and lacquered dressers can be minimalist on their own.

So start small by swapping in some essential pieces into your current decor, and before you know it you'll be the proud owner of a glamorous pad that any Hollywood starlet would be happy to crash in. A new chandelier, accent pillow or mirror is just the right glitzy touch to get you started.
