10 Household Appliances Totally Transformed by Spray Paint

Just like counting the rings on a tree trunk, you can usually use color to measure the age of an appliance. As the years pass, so do the in-fashion colors of appliances like ovens, toasters and lamps. Nothing says 1970 like an avocado fridge, right?

The good news is most of your tell-tale older appliances can be transformed with a healthy coat of spray paint. Just check out these 10 projects from around the web. Who knew a $6 bottle could do so much?

TOP ROW:
  • Table Fan It might look vintage, but this fan was brand new, just not the right shade. A coat of spray paint from Casey of Vitamini Handmade made it over into a soft blue.
  • Ceiling Fan Faux wood veneer and brass fittings on a fan don't have to be a deal breaker. Pretty Handy Girl shows you how its done.
  • CFL Bulbs Dingy white and printed writing getting in the way of your industrial fixture? Paint the bulb! Totally safe since it doesn't give off heat.
  • Chandeliers This post from the Apartment Therapy archives shows off a bunch of colorful makeovers.
  • Pendant Lamps The always-affordable IKEA can have a limited color selection, but a can of spray paint is a game changer, as you can see with this colorful array of pendants from Remodelista.
BOTTOM ROW:
  • Table Lamps Brass lamps are an inexpensive yard sale staple and can be totally transformed with a bright coat of paint and new base, like in this post from Vixen Made.
  • Porch Light This Old House uses a textured paint to remake this outdoor light fixture...
  • Toaster ...then tackles a white toaster, giving it a thoroughly modern stainless steel feel.
  • Stand Mixer Kat Skull got a deal on a KitchenAid Stand Mixer, but it was a little dingy and not her favorite color. You can transform thrifed finds and hand-me-downs into like-new pieces with a spray.
  • Oven Knobs If you don't want to commit to the whole appliance, you can update small touches. Carrie of Saving for Six gave her oven a pop of red with painted knobs.
