A popular choice for infusing a little extra luxury in your bathroom is the soaking tub. Deeper than a regular tub, soaking tubs are perfect for sinking into a warm bath and letting the days’ troubles float away. We’ve rounded up 10 great examples of soaking tubs to inspire your own bathroom renovations (or even just dreams).
Inspired by the Japanese ofuro, which is a tub usually square or round and so deep you can be almost completely submerged while seated, soaking tubs now encompass many shapes and sizes. They all have the same thing in common: the ability to sink into a warm bath! Though soaking tubs come in a number of varieties here in America (can you say whirlpool, massaging, chromotherapy or aromatherapy?) we decided to stick to the simple ones, giving you a variety of shapes, sizes and prices.

Prices way out of your range? There are a number of options available for tubs that are deeper than standard and can be found at your local bath supply stores. Look for tubs with a high depth, but also check the height of the drain; that'll determine how high you can get the water. Interested in trying your hand at creating a DIY soaking tub? Those all look SO inviting! I especially like the copper one.
I think they're wonderful but I cannot believe this post is coming from Los Angeles, the last place anyone should be installing one of these! I guess you can have the fantasy, though.

ohmy. sousa, i disagree! i think they look amazingly comfortable! jealous!
okay did anyone see the bathtub on the t.v. show House a few weeks ago- House and Wilsons' new condo is INCREDIBLE! the bathtub was like half of an egg- so amazing. i thought for sure it would be included in this on this web page soon!
North American tubs are between 14-17 inches deep; usually closer to 14"; European tubs are 18", and Japanase 20".
We went with an 18" deep European tub from Kaldewei, the Centro Duo. Can't say enough great things about it!

I much prefer the look of the Japanese tubs. And I'm notorious for choosing aesthetics over function. I would prefer to stretch out in the tub, but would give it up for the beauty and space-saving that the Japanese tubs provide.
We have a wonderful Japanese soaking tub which we love BUT we have not be able to figure the right ladder or step to get into the tub. Any suggestions? Right now we just have a teak step which doesn't match the tub. Please post an ladder or step stool suggestion for a Japanese soaking tub?
