If you like the concept of the dachshund bookends, but not the pricetag, there is a resin version here: http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?r=1&EAN=9781615560479&cm_mmc=Google%20Product%20Search-_-Q000000630-_-Jonathan%20Adler%20Dachshund%20White%20Resin%20Bookends%202%20Pieces-_-9781615560479&ourl=Jonathan-Adler-Dachshund-White-Resin-Bookends-2-Pieces
My folks had that horse head pair! Good memories.
I have a pair of @-shaped silver bookends that I love because they fit my hobbies and my first initial is an A.
I have the horse head pair! But in a warmer color. I've had them for the last 30 years, so that style has been around a while.
love the foo dogs!
Sorry, but aside from the cubes, none of these read modern to me.
I have these in white and they are definitely more modern !! ( horse heads - modern- really??)

I think the "Palmae" bookends are pretty modern, if you consider Art Deco modern, which I do. Very clean and geometric.
