Wow - the Flamingo stools are a nice take on teh Tam Tam stools I paid retail for from MOMA some years ago... http://www.aviarydecor.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=185
THE. doh.
I like the planters... wonder if they'd work in front of a pretty traditional-looking brick ranch. Any thoughts, AT-ers?
This is an incorrect use of the term Frugal.
From Dictionary.com:
1.economical in use or expenditure; prudently saving or sparing; not wasteful: a frugal manager.
2. entailing little expense; requiring few resources; meager; scanty: a frugal meal.
The only thing on here that could be considered "frugal" is the coffee press as it doesn't require electricity or a trip to the coffee shop. True frugality would be to find one used or live without.
Everything else is just inexpensive decor.
What downtown_gal said.
Ditto Downtown Gal.
It's not frugal if its unnecessary.
"Entailing little expense" seems to me to be exactly what this post is about so I'm not sure where you get off saying this isn't an appropriate use of the word. And neither of thes definitions above preclude spending a little bit to decorate. Making your home prettier isn't necessarily wasteful nor is it imprudent. And anyway, this is a blog, not an English class. Geeze.
Ditto Tiamat.
thanks for the info, technically "frugal" or not!
downtown_gal: Who are you to determine what others might need vs. want. Currently I have a house without a single chair. We just moved, sold all our furniture before doing so and I don't have anything to sit on... I need those stools :)
8 of them to be exact!
I actually have four of those planters. Two are outside on my deck and two are in my house with orchids in them. I receive many compliments on them. They are rather chic and give a nice modern vibe.
Tough crowd... Thanks for the post Sarah.
The Flamingo stools are nice looking, but they are made of cheap plastic and when put together are rather wobbly... The top disk part is a lid that comes off... I got one in white as a side stool by the entrance door.
Graphist - Thanks for the heads up!
You are welcome, Sarahrae...
downtown_gal: Wow, I mean, you are so smart that you can use the dictionary. It's an honor to read your critique. We are all enriched by it, I am certain. Use that dictionary to look up the word "alliteration". In the original article, "Fantastic Frugal Finds", that is what the author was going for. Read between the lines instead of playing grammar police. Goodness.
It appears the only definition of frugal living that could fit into downtown_gal's vocabulary might be a homeless person sleeping under a bridge.
Thanks for the post Sarahrae. I suspect more people than not will appreciate your frugal finds posts. I know I do.
Wow. Risking being voted off the island (I mean, she wasn't listing Cashmere Throws, you know? Though I guess if one were frugal to the core, a vase could be made of a cone of found newspaper, melted candle- I don't do flowers- so I'm just guessing) I just thought to say that on the one hand -I'd be lost without my little hooks on magnets like the ones shown above. Absentminded to the nth.
On the other hand, I'm still not shopping at Target: if the Supreme Court is going to give Target & buddies as Corp. the same rights as us as human in elections, with all their über-millions, I won't shop where the heads of store fork cash at people who promote violence against minority groups. I'm certain I stuck to as factual as can be; for the sake of non-political site- I tried to keep that short and sweet and I hope I succeeded. Sometimes, at base, this is a site on consumerism/purchase in addition to design and decor, so I believe it fits.
Thanks much.
I agree with downtown gal. Also there are millions of items less than $20...
Planters are awesome though... I have been searching for these for quite some time. Good to know they are priced well..
To anyone still checking out these items, make sure to check on Monday (Labor Day) as many are offering additional discounts, so google for those coupon codes before checkout!
gosh - i can't believe how rude some of you are. take the meaning of frugal however you want BUT being mean is quite clear. should i pull out the dictionary to explain that one to you RainForRent and Daily Nuance? gosh. how unnecessary.
oh man - sarahrae too. wow.
ggsix: The internet gets mean sometimes. If it's too much, you might want to sit this one out. Grammar police are as bad as forum trolls. The author takes time to write, and they nastily critique the writing. Annoying is a nice way to put that kind of behaviour.
