As far as we can tell, 2011 is the year of online shopping... at least for hopefuls that are diving into the ever more crowded pool of members-only flash sale sites like Gilt, One Kings Lane, and Eziba. Here are five focused on home decor, all of which celebrated their launches in the past few months (or have yet to launch).
- Joss & Main: Parent company CSN Stores launched Joss & Main in January 2011. The focus is on 72-hour home and lifestyle flash sales with discounts ranging between 25% and 70% off retail.
- Fab.com: This site hasn't yet launched, but pre-launch registration is available. Founded by CEO Jason Goldberg, it has a younger, hipper, mod edge. From their blog: "The all new fab.com will feature daily design inspirations for everyone, including daily 50% discounts on ‘wow’ products from leading manufacturers."
- The Foundary: Hayneedle — the huge network of affordable furniture websites — recently launched this members-only site, which hosts 72-hour sales on furniture and home decor. While Hayneedle's aesthetic is more mainstream and no-frills, the Foundary markets itself with brand names and a trendier look.
- RedNook: This new members-only site sticks mainly to home decor, and they offer designer products at up to 80% off retail prices. Sample brands include Jansen, Alessi, and Rose&Iris.
- Beyond the Rack: Elle Decor posted this week that Beyond the Rack — a members-only group known for online clothing sales — is moving into home decor. They say, "Featured brands include Marimac, for linens, and Zuo Modern, which offers minimalist office and outdoor furniture and home accessories."

Could someone explain a members-only site, and flash sale? I am not familiar...
@maria2 these sites require you to sign up for a free membership (mostly just give them your email address), then they email you everyday with limited sale items. It's basically a clever way to get you to buy because if you don't you'll miss out. I signed up for a couple of these but since I like to ruminate for a long time before purchasing things I unsubscribe. Plus it just got annoying after a while to always have DIRECT marketing in my email box EVERY SINGLE DAY. I really didn't need the stuff they were selling so it wasn't super helpful anyway.
Anyone know who makes that beautiful white couch? Thanks in advance
here are a couple others, I'd call them 2nd tier, but they've still got some good stuff!
Haute Look - good for Furniture and housewares. http://www.hautelook.com/invite/HCottingham690
Ideeli - Some house stuff www.ideeli.com/invite/heatherecottingham
Rue La La - Usually only 1 decorating sale a day. http://www.ruelala.com/invite/heatherc
Thanks!
So, it's like Groupon meets home decor? No, thanks. I always give a fake email and visit such sites when I feel like it, or am in the market for something specific. The hype and frenzy they try to evoke is too energy-draining.
I just signed up for one and so far it's not too bad. I actually bought a set of chairs from them. Incase you are interested, www.olume.com. My chairs are: http://www.olume.com/results.cfm?eventID=43
BEWARE! I ordered a throw on Joss & Main and it was the worst quality item I have ever seen! I tried to return it and they said nope so I am stuck with a piece of garbage I will probably cut up into rags to clean my toilet with!! LOW QUALITY!
