There's nothing like spray paint for giving old items instant color makeovers. Where I live in Chicago, ostensibly in an effort to curb graffiti, spray paint cannot be purchased in hardware stores. And, at the risk of sounding agoraphobic, I prefer shopping from the comfort of my own home anyway. Thanks to the magic of the internet, a world of spray paint options is just a click away.
• Home Depot stocks the major spray paint brands online. You can also save a little money by purchasing one of their multi-can packs.
• Art Primo has a wide selection of spray paint brands in a rainbow of colors and finishes.
• Grainger is known as an industrial supplier but they also stock Krylon spray paint.
• Amazon stocks just about everything else so it's no surprise that they carry a wide selection of spray paint. If you're a Prime member, this is a great option for free shipping.
• Utrecht carries Montana and MTN spray paints, with a vast selection of colors available.
• Mister Art is another online art supply store that offers a good selection of spray paint colors and finishes.
• Global Industry, another industrial supplies retailer, has Rust-Oleum and Krylon paints, as well as some high heat and barbecue paints.
• 33third has a great selection of paint combo packs, including 12, 24, and 48 can packages.
• Dick Blick carries, in addition to Krylon spray paints, Plutonium Ultra Supreme Professional Grade Aerosol Paint, a brand made in Detroit.
• ThePaintStore carries several spray paint brands, as well as spray primers and varnishes.

Does this imply that you can order spray paint through the post? I thought pressurized aerosols were on the list of things you couldn't post.
@omoriala - My store used to ship an alcohol blending solution that was flammable, so I am drawing my limited knowledge with aerosols...t is my understanding you can ship aerosols (in the USA - I have no knowledge of shipping regulations outside the United States) via ground, not via air. There are guidelines in place from the DOT, and USPS, FedEx and UPS follow them, although USPS has their own set of rules in addition to the DOT. If shipping aerosols via USPS you'd need to follow their guidelines - The last item I ordered that was pressurized (butane) arrived via UPS - I'll bet because it's less paperwork for the sender.
I care, too. Restrictions in Chicago might explain restrictions elsewhere, and it's not even something I would have thought about, though I -am- about to start shopping in my own city for spray paints.
Also, harmless anecdotal stuff doesn't bother me. Um, I guess that's why I keep reading blogs.
In Australia you have to be 18 to buy spray paint and the majority of places do not ship spray paint as you have to be shipped with a road courier and can be expensive.
In terms of brands, I'm a big fan of ironlak, its got a nice high amount of pigment, good price and good amount of coverage. In general spray paint designed for graffiti tends to be the best I find.
The cheap $3 or so paint might seem like an good idea but they usually have a low pigment, tend to seem watery to me (easily run) colours are horrible and the coverage is not that great, so you are not saving much at all.
Ok, fair point AT. International readers, how easy is it for you to get spray paint, and more design related, spray colors beyond red, green, yellow, blue, brown, black and white? Locally, and probably in most places in the US, the spray paint is kept under lock and key and one must be 18 or 21 to purchase. Plus, shades beyond the above mentioned aren't all that available; save Utretch etc.
One other point or question. These less familiar brands might come in smaller sizes than the standard Krylon® brand; thus the dillemma of figuring out how much you'll need for a project. And, they're a lot more expensive.
who knew so many people were trying to buy spray paint?
Does anyone shop at walmart? They carry spray paint and it's just sittin' on the shelf. Also, I work at an Arts and Crafts store, and our regular spray paint is not locked up. We also carry Liquitex brand spray paint which matches the Liquitex acrylic paint. They have some nice colors and I hear it is excellent. It is locked up because it's a little pricey.
I am getting to this a bit late. In Canada, you can buy spray paint at any Home Depot, Rona or Home Hardware, and I would imagine in any other hardware store. I assume Lowe's carries it too although I never looked there for it. Rona has a fairly decent range of colours (but nothing as lovely as those featured in the photo).
I don't know if there are any restrictions in major urban centres like Toronto or Vancouver though.
I never thought about not being able to buy spray paint!? I never knew! I live in Richmond, VA - a city, but can of course buy spray paint at any old store. Home depot, lowes, walmart, hardware store etc.
