Some times old furniture can have a tough time fitting in to new homes. Too big, too brown, too dark. If you have a piece, or you've seen one you love but don't know where to put it and you're feeling brave - a lick of paint might be just what's needed to make old pieces work in modern homes.
TOP ROW
1. I love this table! it belongs to Brooke from April Two Eighty and you can see her home tour here.
2.This 'Esme' sideboard by Knack Studios has had new life breathed into it with some green paint and white accents.
3. Pink! You can see this gorgeous cupboard in lot of Rachel's pics at Smile and Wave.
4. The dark solid colour of this table highlights the detail in the legs and trim.
5. Orange is my favourite colour and I'm so proud of it right now. This chest of drawers is by Sydney Barton.
BOTTOM ROW
6. the black accents on this chest really make it pop. You can see more colourful pieces in Marisa's home tour here at sfgirlbybay.
7. This striking red Fireworks Side Table by Spruce Home will add interest and colour to any room.
8. I don't know if I could do too much lime green. But the white accents and silver additions make this serious occasional table fun.
9. The Dos family have managed to fit a mass of colourful vintage and modern pieces into their home and make it work. This green table is simple enough to fit in with a lot of different colours.
10. This side table is small enough to give a colour lift to even dark, busy rooms.

I love lamp!!!!!
Love! I painted several pieces to make them work in my house, including a china hutch and a window seat.
So timely! I am just about to paint some inherited "Mediterranean" 70's style Basset dressers my mom gave me. I think they'll look super chic (as chic as 70's Mediterranean dressers can look) when I'm done. Thanks for these!!!
What's the best way to paint a piece of furniture - Spray or Brush? To me, spraying would be better(smoother finish) but then does that require a professional or can you just use cans of spraypaint? Has anyone actually used spraypaint on furniture? Any recommendations?
@sasquatch, check out Censational Girl. She spray paints furniture all the time!

I love that none of these examples are white! Go Bold!
Also interesting that the first one has painted hardware. I wonder how long that will hold up especially if it is metal.
Oh wow. This post inspired me to go to the second-hand stores in my city and finally find those side tables I want and paint them no matter what my parents say about staining!
Funny the post says "too brown". I spray painted all of my bedroom furniture chocolate. Looked fabulous.
The metal knobs that were on the dressers were also looking sad, so I spray painted those in a brushed silver. Used plain old spraypaint and it still holds up well. (it's been 3 years)
I love that bombe chest in yellow. I have a set of cream colored French Provincial furniture that needs a new coat of paint (it's terribly yellowed). I can't decide if I want to bring back the original cream color or go colorful with a creamy light blue or modern with black.
I love them all! I love painted furniture in general, especially in the bright and bold colours!
favorite thing to do...over and over..makes a nice and BIG difference...especially in a HOT PINK or calming things down with a soft white..thanks for this!
The dos family links are not valid, btw.
Thanks for the ideas. I've been thinking of painting an antique French 'bonnetière' (a one-doored armoire, originally used to store linens). The bright colours look great.
