I happen to be fortunate enough to have the Blyton. My BFF gave it to me as a birthday gift. Isn't that amazing. It is an awesome awesome gift. The plates and napkins are everything you want them to be. I moved overseas this year and you bet I packed that up and took it with me.

Haha, I was unaware that "the quickest way to put a damper on a picnic" is a worn-out basket.
You know, as much as I love these baskets, I don't think there is really ever a good enough replacement for a good, old fashioned Coleman cooler. They might not be very pretty, but the last thing you want when you have cold sodas and sandwiches with deli meat, cheese, or dairy is a picnic basket that won't keep things cool.
I'm with Pi on the cooler. Plus with kids there's always sand in there, not to mention spilled drinks and smears of sunscreen ... I prefer a cooler and a couple of canvas totes that can be thrown in the washing machine.
I am partial to my rolling soft cooler with the removable, sturdy liner! I love pretty things, but love practical ones more.
I grew up with Reed Basket N.6, as I'm Portuguese, as well as these baskets, and I can tell you that it's very practical. I still use it to go shopping, to picnic, when we and the kids go to the beach and i really love it. Plus, its hand made and all natural. I recommend it.
Must admit I prefer my picnic backpack. It has two sections - one for plates, cups, cutlery etc, and the other is a thermally lined section for food etc. Put in an ice-brick and everything stays cool and safe to eat.
The best part is that it easily slings over the shoulders making it perfect for a hike.
I love my wicker picnic baskets from The Basket Lady. I use their wine & cheese picnic basket when it is just my husband and I, and the large wicker picnic basket when we go with friends. One reason I love these baskets so much is that they didn't come with ugly dishes and napkins. I can use cool melamine dishes that I got from Target. Plus, since there is no lid, my husband's picnic favorite, a french baguette won't get squished :-)
