Although $100 can often times seem like a million, in a small space there isn't as much "stuff" that's needed to outfit it, so splurging is ok once in awhile. We pretended that we had $1,000 burning a hole in our pocket and set out to find 10 different things to spend it on—here's the results!
Do you have a favorite product that rings up at the register for less than $100? Something you bought and have adored since? Share your purchase in the comments below!
First Row, Left To Right
• Havers Stripe Rug: from Crate and Barrel for $89.95 in an 8'x5'. This rug is packed with color and will make a big impact for what's considered to be a reasonable price for that size floor covering.
• Steele Canvas Basket: They start around $40 and go up from there, but the ones that are perfect sizes for laundry, magazines or even stray blankets come in right around the $100 mark. We've never spent $100 on a basket, but if we were, this would be the one.
• Infinity Narrow Mirror: We love the sleek design to this mirror, allowing it to reflect light without the frame holding it down visually in the room, like it's floating. $99.95 from CB2.
• Lacquer Bath Accessories: Although individually each of these products (along with a few others in the collection) are well below the $100 price point, the thought of spending $100, even in combination seems high, but we love the idea of these clean pieces with such strong color and personality for a small space!
• Chunky Tassel Throw: for $69 from West Elm. We love this loose weave and large knit that will keep you warm without suffocating you, perfect for movie night and snuggling on the sofa!
Second Row, Left To Right
• 3 Pocket Wooly: for $125 from Wooly Pockets. Although this trio of indoor garden is just over the $100 price limit, we're going to make an exception and put some of the space change from the throw pictured above towards this purchase. A little plant life goes a long way in a small space, especially when it comes to knowing you can grow your own produce without a balcony!
• Dwell Studio Pillows: for $24.99 at Target. Pillows are funny things, you never want to spend a great deal of money on them and yet they're something you almost have to buy more than one at a time. In this case we'll take one of each to deck out our sofa!
• Wood Hangers: We talk all the time about treating your clothes right and the impact wooden hangers can make on your emotional connection to your closet and keeping it straightened. At just over $1/each at the Crate and Barrel Outlet, we should be able to fill our entire closet and even our coats and jackets while we're at it.
• Carbon Nightstand: right at the $100 mark, we love these side tables or nightstands more than we can express. They're a piece that can go anywhere, in any room, at any time and versatility is truly the key in tiny floorplans.
• Branches Duvet Set: for $59.99 from Overstock, we still have money left over to buy sheets and pillow cases, score!

White Enamel Flatwa...
Also, Target sells similar chairs (as seen in #1), 2 for $70.
I LOVE the white table in the feature photo. Origin?
Small Space Solutions? Nice article, bad title. What problem is a rug or pillows a solution to? A Small Space? 10 great ways to spruce us a small space under $100.
oscurotrophic,
Clicking the "Havers Stripe Rug" directs you to the Crate and Barrel website...the table should be there somewhere.
"We love this lose weave" - lose weave, huh? ;)
also, i've seen the same wooden hangers at IKEA, i believe where a pack of 8 for $4. cheaper than C&B!
Target also has an even better deal on wood hangers. 24-pack of cherry for $16.99

After moving from my single person small space to a two person small space and with that shared closet space....wood hangers are NOT a solution, they are the problem. All my wooden old hangers are now in a box waiting to go to goodwill. Mr. Oblivia's things wouldn't have made it into the closet without those flocked hangers creating some space. The things we do for love.
if you're going to do wooden hangers, def go the ikea route - so cheap!
in fact, i bought a ton of wooden hangers from ikea b/c i decided to follow the whole "let's treat my clothes well" advice. it worked well when i had an entire walk-in closet to myself. then i got married had to try to fit all my clothes (which frankly aren't that many) into a shared wardrobe in my husband's condo...and i can tell you that wooden hangers are *not good* if you don't have a lot of closet space. i ended up giving away most of the wooden hangers and investing in the skinny velvety ones. much much better for a small space.
oliviaoblivia - it's like we're the same person! exact same experience. i'm glad i'm not alone.
I'm with oscurotropic. Why are pillow in this post? I love you AT, but this is a bit of a cop out (sp?), like you couldn't find enough things to put on here so you went with accessories...
Don't get me wrong, I like the pillows, they're just irrelevant as a small space solution
Sorry, meant funstraw, not oscurotropic, my bad
@gretchenalexis - amen sister.
@ oscurotrophic:
It is the Gateleg Table from Crate & Barrel. I work there.
These are not solutions. This post is just trying to sell me stuff. I would have liked to see multi-purpose furniture, tricks of the trade, or something that would help with organizing the stuff I already own.
I love my gateleg table from IKEA, it's been a lifesaver in our smaller place - especially with the storage drawers in the center. But now it needs casters...
Some other space solutions I've found: foldable wall-mounted tables act as a buffet, side table, bill paying center, landing strip, laptop desk, etc.; adjustable lighting; tons of baskets; Murphy beds; shelves mounted high around the perimeter of a room; ottomans double as side tables, coffee tables, extra seating; the list goes on...but none of them are pillows.
This article is a giant tease! You show two adorable space-saving tables, and then it turns out you're talking about mirrors and a rug. Gee, uhm... thanks.
Count me in as another person who is rather tired of having posts say one thing ("small space solutions") only to find another (decorations). And why, why, why the focus on specific stores? Oh, because they sponsor you... so is the focus of this site revenue from sponsors, or reaching out to readers, who may not have access to these stores? Give us ideas, please, not advertisements. (Do you see how many commenters are looking at the table and NOT the rug?)
And... "loose weave". This is a design site and you're calling what are obviously *knit* blankets... a "loose weave"?
i'm vexed by this AT shilling also. and that basket does not look like it's worth more than about $15, to say nothing of being pretty ugly at any price.
didn't they say recently they were going to be posting less? i'd rather see fewer posts of higher quality/innovation/creativity than a "small space 'solutions'" post every other day.
oscurotrophic-
My fiance and I recently bought the gateleg table from Crate & Barrel as one of the first pieces of furniture for our one room apt. It's super useful! We mainly use it as a half table for us, but it opens up pretty large for when we have guests (up to 6). Also works well as a workstation... small for computer time and opened wide for when I need to spread out for bills or crafting. Warnings: It's a little shakey, so be prepared to do some light modification on the base. Also, the espresso looks like black in most lights. VERY DARK.
I also have the parson's chairs...I bought the target version. WAY CHEAPER than the Crate & Barrel version and just as good. Target has a beautiful blue color that C&B doesn't. I love that they stack when we aren't using them all!
I agree, I would have rather seen an article on tables and other furniture that transforms than pillows, etc.
I have to say that only a few of the above items actually have any relevancy to small space solutions.
I have to also disagree about wooden hangers- they're pretty, but they take up WAY too much space in a small closet. The think plastic ones are much more space efficient.
Its about using the right wood hangers. Ikea has two, the bulky Boomerang and the cheaper and skinny Hopa which are the ones I have and love. They don't take up much space at all, and look beautiful in my closet.
I got that Havers rug from Crate and Barrel for my kitchen, and it is great. (I even bought two backup, for when it gets worn.)
Does anyone know who makes the chairs in pic #3? The Starck ghost chairs are not really my style but I love these with the straight lines. Thanks!
If this blog were a paid service (like a magazine), I'd be apt to complain more loudly about the bloggers not having education or expertise in the topics about which they write. A knit throw referred to as loose weave (the goose is loose!), or the suggestion that woven rugs can be cut up and stitched together with a serger are obvious examples of enthusiastic, yet completely unprepared editorial content.

Everything else in that picture is CB2, so I'm guessing... CB2?
Thanks Patrick... I will check there. :)
