You can reasonably lay out the facts about the Swine Flu, point out 76% of swine flu contractors tested had antibody evidence of swine flu infection without serious illness. Rational discussion about washing hands and avoiding crowded public spaces is still often met with wide-eyed worry over terms like "pandemic" and "viral panic". Note the previous 1976 pig flu didn't blow up into a pandemic, alongside the fact that flu season is at its tail end with the conclusion of cold, dry weather influenza depend upon. We get bombarded with questions about technological solutions for killing germs all of the time, even before the appearance of the porcine-originated influenza frenzy. So today we gathered a top ten list of tech related items that may or may not help ease your worries about catching the pig flu...some serious, others more for the benefits of health thru laughter (like this anti-germ turban)...
  1. USB USB SUKKIRI Face Mask 2: We start off one of the sillier products. It probably won't prevent anyone from getting the flu, but it sure will improve health by providing laughs.
  2. ThinkGeek :: UV Disinfectant Wand: UV light is a proven anti-microbrial technology. The question is whether a small wand like this will do anything except give the swine flu bugs a nice tan.
  3. Iogear Germ Free Wireless Laser Mouse: coated with a Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) and Silver (Ag) nano-particle compound, this mouse supposedly stops the proliferation of bacteria and virus on its surface.
  4. Halo UV-ST Ultraviolet Vacuum: we gave this UV vacuum to our mom, which she's happily using. She still catches a cold every so often, but her carpets looks great.
  5. IQAir HealthPro Plus: this is the one product in the list we're not joking about. This air filter is serious hospital grade air purification for the home. It may help reduce the spread of household germs, allergens for sure. We keep this on for 12+ hours a day here in dirty air Los Angeles.
  6. HYSO Automatic Door Handle Cleaner: Actually quite a smart idea for a product; it sprays the handle clean after each use. We've seen one too many people in offices use the loo and forget to wash their hands. Yuck.
  7. Samsung Anti-microbrial Netbook: For the germaphobe on the go, this Samsung NC10 Netbook is coated with nano-sized silver ion powder, making the surface inhospitable to microscopic critters.
  8. USB Mini Ionizer/Air Purifier: we're pretty sure this is more of a toy rather than anything close to a real air purification solution. But maybe if you hook this up right under your face and wrap yourself in a huge plastic bag, this desktop Mini Ionizer/Air Purifier might do the job.
  9. Nanotech Handler: a low tech solution which gives you the option of open, pressing and closing publicly used features without using your hands. More nanotech coated technology, we expect this to be a favourite in the coming months.
  10. Dr. Doormat Anti-germ Doormat: germs come into the house not only on our hands and clothing, but on the soles of your shoes. We ask visitors to take off their shoes, but maybe something like this anti-germ coated doormat would insure they leave the swine flu cooties outside.
