10 Teched Out Coffee Tables

Coffee tables can be the unsung heroes of the living room. Although we often do not give much thought to the design of our humble coffee table, we would not be happy campers without our makeshift desk/ footrest. As we perused our archives and the web looking for coffee tables that refused to be overlooked we discovered these gems. We love these neat coffee tables that are perfect for embracing your inner and not so inner geek. In this roundup we have included a good selection of DIY and deluxe coffee tables as well as a swanky concept.

  • LED Pinball Machine Coffee Table: Instructables member Zieak took an old pinball machine from the dump and upcycled it into this neat coffee table.
  • Playstation Controller Coffee Table: Created by an Australian high school student for his year 12 project, this over-sized controller is made out of plywood, MDF, and veneer and topped with glass.
  • iTables: Designed by Italian artist Mirko Ginepro for Milan Design Week, these iPod shaped tables are made of Corian.
  • ShiftBrite Coffee Table: Created by Macetech using an Ikea Granas side table as a base, this coffee table contains 81 ShiftBrite RGB LED modules controlled via Arduino.
  • LED Pong Coffee Table: The tabletop is built with 4,096 LEDs and 65 microcontrollers by SparkFun's CTaylor. The game of Pong is controlled by four attached Atari controllers making it a piece of furniture that also doubles as entertainment.
