Most people think of San Francisco when they think of a place with a concentration of beautifully restored Victorian homes. Since Michael Cote's Grand Victorian House Tour has been well received, I wanted to get Manchester on the map and show off some additional local beauties.
In 1846 Manchester was home to the world's largest cotton mill resulting in many affluent businessmen building Victorian homes throughout the city.
Many of these Victorians are located in Manchester's North End, but you will also find them sprinkled on the East and West sides. The first image pictured was the former admissions office for Notre Dame College and is now a private residence. I am working on getting a House Tour...those windows are magnificent!
If you love turrets as much as I do, you can see inside another Manchester Victorian here.

So happy to see more of Manchester featured on AT.
Me too! I was born and raised in the Monadnock region, and lived there until last year, when I relocated last year to Denver, CO. I really enjoy the city-living and all, and the West certainly has it's charm, but every day I'm reminded of how there's really no place quite like New Hampshire.
One of my favorite activities is to drive around the North End of Manchester to look at these houses. Truly fantastic. I've been lucky enough to be invited to a few house parties in a number of them and the insides are just as spectacular.
West Philly has some great victorians too!
Ah, those are adorable! The stuff that dreams are made of.
Ick. I hate Victorians. A bunch of tiny rooms, a roof that costs a fortune to replace, and the heating bills! Oh the heating bills! They're from such a repressive era too...
Pittsburgh also has lots of gorgeous victorians! I love them, inside and out! You just don't see craftmanship and care put into houses like that anymore--stained glass, carved woodwork, lots of built-ins, some beautiful hardwood parquet floors....
I love house #3. Does anybody know how much those houses sell for?
roxy27: here's a 5,000 square foot Victorian in Manchester for $525K:
