We usually think of summer as a time to get outside and enjoy the warm weather, but why not spend some quality time in the great (air-conditioned) indoors, with a lemon shandy in one hand and some light reading in the other? For anyone who needs a mini-vacation ASAP ("Serenity now!"), here are 10 ways to unwind in your own home.
- Summer reading - no heavy novels allowed, beach reading only :)
- Host a party - have your friends over for white wine and summer salads.
- Brew some iced tea - maybe make that a Long Island iced tea.
- Grow something - start a container garden on the deck.
- Open the windows - let some fresh air in.
- Buy some flowers - there's no better time to decorate your home with bouquets.
- Take a vacation from your computer - just walk away from the laptop.
- Have a film festival at home - watch your favorite summer blockbusters.
- Take a bath - unwind in the tub.
- Take a nap - grab some sleep on the sofa or the porch.

I find this post sorta strange. It's just a list of things people do all the time.
Oh I don't know, sophies mom... I'm not sure I would have thought of unwinding with a drink or opening a window or taking a nap or bath or reading a book in my own home without these helpful hints. Watch a movie? At my *home*?! Crazy talk!
Ha, this is a bit of a strange post. I guess the idea is to inspire?
My husband must have read it already because I'm basically looking out my window at the photo 10 right now.
Yeah yeah yeah, great ideas. Ohhh forgive me...always obsessing over paint color. Can anyone ID the sagey color in the iced tea/blender/window shot? :-)
I like this. Kind of a "remember to stop and smell the roses" feel, which is so important in our busy lives! I may try some of these out tomorrow. :)
One word for surviving the summer: POPSICLES.
Lots of them.

@ surfjack if he chopped all that wood he deserves a siesta.
Root beer popsicles for a summer hangover. No kidding, really works. But then again my last ho was about 30 years ago and maybe anything would have worked. Don't forget hiking a few peaks, kayaking/canoeing a waterway, having a bonfire with s'mores, swimming at least 3 times (one of them preferably skinny dipping and at night) and picking berries.
Summer at home = barbecue :)
Oh, and shooting stars in August.
Out of curiousity - in picture eight that talks about a summer film festival at home, how would anyone see that TV with the furniture arrangement? Seems pointless to arrange your room to where you totally have to rearrange it any time you just want to watch some television.
@hrhprincessfiona - ha! Very true! But alas, no wood in our backyard. He just wanders out there and naps. Once in a while, he meanders by a tree or shrub and clips something off it. Otherwise, the backyard is for sleeping, apparently. :)
ChrisGal, maybe the TV is the kind that swivels. Just a thought.
Just loving that my all-time fav (usually watch it at Christmas, but why not summertime) movie is pictured. By the way, when you abbreviate hangover (ho) it really puts a whole new spin on your comment. Maybe that's just my juvenile sense of humor.
Interesting summer movie choice. I think I'll do #7 right now!
