Name: Mark and Shelby
Location: Lafayette, IN
Type: Rented one bedroom loft

Why I use color:"Color adds a great deal of personality to any home and allows the space to become something unique. The major color choice in our loft is our orange wall which becomes a major focal point in the living area. After painting, the space was instantly more alive and the paint engaged spaces higher up in the apartment making the space feel twice as large. With such a bold focus point, we have become more aware of the combinations of colors around the rest of the apartment and choose to design in an effort to reduce color clutter."

"Using colors that appeal to our personal aesthetic give us a space that is uniquely our own, and allows our visitors to see a bit of our personality. The colors in our loft bring out the interesting architectural details left in this renovated car warehouse. The large multi-paned window allows for contrast against the green plants depending on the time of day. It is hard to describe why we choose the colors we choose, but as a costume designer and artist, color plays an important role in our everyday lives, and I can't imagine our apartment without color, it just wouldn't be us."

2 Good color tips:

"Choose colors that suit your personality and the space equally."

"Be Bold. Be Noticed."

Favorite type and brand of paint:"Behr Premium Plus: Semi-Gloss Enamel – Poppy Glow"
