Where does your toothbrush live? We’ve rounded up 12 items that, though not entirely intended for this purpose, would make fabulous toothbrush holders. We admit: some of these are a bit outlandish/luxurious for just a toothbrush holder, but who couldn’t stand a little more design to wake up to in the morning?
Small bathrooms don’t always have the space to employ lots of color or design elements, so why not bring in a detail that’ll both make you smile and that you’ll use? Unless you absolutely can’t stand your toothbrush touching another toothbrush, chances are you don’t have to relegate your toothbrush holder to the cheap-o ones that have slots or holes in the top. In fact, if you’re casual with your toothbrushes, then there’s a whole world of options for holding this vital hygienic accessory—anything from cups, to planters to more. Here are 12 fun ideas:
1) Victorian Tumbler from Pottery Barn $36 for set of 6
2) Vintage Swanky Swigs from Etsy $10
3) Ote Wine Glasses from Aviary $25 for 2
4) Barrel Fire Porcelain Tea Light from Aviary $20 (you'd have to take the tea light out, of course)
5) Smush Tumbler from Aviary $30
6) Kerr Planter from Sanctuary $26
7) Zombie Tumblers from CB2 $3.95 each
8) Vintage Mod Hellerware Holder from Etsy $24.50

I like mine. It sticks to the mirror with the suction thingy and my brushes just hand there.
I use an ashtray.
It lives in my bedroom, in a glass type container.
so....a buncha glasses?
I keep mine in a Jefferson cup, but stash it away in the medicine cabinet. keeping toothbrushes out on the counter looks yucky and is germ-y.

I use an aluminum can! The particular one I rescued from my recycling bin seemed higher quality than most (was even coated inside) and hasn't rusted at all. It sits on a high corner shelf so it doesn't stand out, but adds a nice metallic touch. Plus it was free.
I use a small mason jelly jar for my son's toothbrush (just the right height for that and his kids' toothpaste and a water tumbler (the kind that comes in a set) in our bathroom. I like how I can wash them easily when (and I do mean when - they can get nasty!) they are dirty very easily.
I found these glass tumblers at Pier 1 similar to the Victorian style tumblers posted but instead of the fleur de lis hobnail it has "H20"
I finally switched to electric tooth brush so only the brush part rests on a Japanese 3" sq. soy sauce plate.
I was using just a black coffee mug up until yesterday. I just went back to an actual toothbrush holder - I got tired of them touching each other.
I use a silver sugar server. Another holds the q-tips. They are the perfect size and pretty easy to find at estate sales, garage sales etc. Plus they are pretty.
My kids' brushes are in a small ceramic vase I got as a free gift for buying lots of art supplies years ago-it has a small emblem on it that reads 'winsor and newton's artists' brushes.' I like reading it every morning-reminds me to be creative! Sadly, my sonicair brush sits in a ugly plastic holder.
Some other actually quirky options:

I use an old Fire King milk glass mug.
I (theoretically) store mine in the medicine cabinet because, and this may sound really nitpicky, I think it's too ugly to sit out on the counter. However, it rarely makes it back into the cabinet so I'm going to pose a new question. Does anyone know where I can get an attractive toothbrush? Preferably something vintage looking with a metal or faux ivory handle? I am always seeing cute cups/holder things in thrift stores, but I refrain from buying because in my perfect world I would put my ugly neon toothbrush out of sight after every use.

I thought this was a cute and easy solution. Especially if you have children.
@lauren84, this isn't girlie but it's a pretty "sexy" toothbrush (weirdest statement i think i've ever made). it's black and has titanium bristles... which feel better on your gums, get between your teeth, and are more bacteria resistant. i thought it was pretty neat!

what about storing toothbrush "tops" for an electric toothbrush... I can never find anything small enough, where the brush part won't touch anything but still stand straight! Any suggestions?!
Many of these suggestions are pretty, but none of them solve the problem that I have with keeping the brushes from touching. We have four little kids - viruses abound in this household. Ideally, I would find an unbreakable, easy to clean toothbrush holder with six holes or slots wide enough to accommodate modern toothbrushes (especially the silly, fat kids' ones) . It would also have to be pretty, of course, and mount to the wall because I can't fit another thing atop my tiny pedestal sink.
We use color coded single toothbrush holders purchased at a japanese store: http://sjshop.trustpass.alibaba.com/product/11313028-10863632/Toothbrush_Holder.html
Fun and funky.
Can anybody tell me why the Fast Cup (last link) is $40??
i put mine in a cup that someone hand painted for my b-day..
but does anyone else have this problem...it gets really really dirty inside the cup after a while.. like..orangey/brown/black. i think it's cause of all the moisture/water that gets inside. that's why i'd like to have some sort of toothbrush holder that is open on the bottom but is still decorative..
I store mine in the medicine cabinet, but I put it on a chopstick rest. They come in pretty shapes and patterns. Mine is shaped like a little dog.
for your personal hygiene reference: unless you put the toilet seat down when flushing, a lot of germ-y water vapor is spread around your washroom every single time you use it. please keep your toothbrushes (in a glass or whatever quirky holder you choose...) in the cabinet.
A non-toothbrush comment. I love the layout of this post. I like seeing a single row of photos with captions immediately underneath, so I don't need to keep scrolling up and down and counting over to see which photo I'm at. I also like that the photos are big enough already that I don't need to click on each to enlarge the thumbnail. I hope to see this type of set up more!
I use a tiny claw-foot tub - I think it was part of a Christmas package from Bath and Body Works a couple of years ago. Our toothbrushes and flossers just luxuriate in it. It's pretty fantastic.
my toothbrush lives on a deerhead:

The chopstick rest is the best suggestion ever!
Little concerned that some of these cups to hold toothbrushes are glass. Glass falling on tile just doesn't work.
I'm with lauren84, I keep mine out of site, stashing them in the medicine cabinet.
Less clutter!
In my son's vintage-baseball bathroom, his brush sits in a plastic David's Sunflower Seeds cup. (He made the point recently that when he "spits," he can pretend that he's spitting shells from the seeds.)
I have an old milk glass dentist's tray used for dental tools, I keep it in a drawer in our bathroom vanity, it has vertical grooves that our toothbrushes rest in to keep them from touching, has a spot that our tooth paste will sit in and a place for our dental floss...I can throw it in the dishwasher when it gets dirty. I found it on eBay for $9 and it is so worth it!
The shelves in our medicine cabinet are wood, and my hubby drilled two holes in one of them, one hole for each of our Sonicare heads. They hang in mid air from the holes, stay out of sight, reasonably germ free and dry quickly. Beauty!
You can find glasses similar to the Victorian Tumbler above at Anthropologie - I use one for my toothbrush. I like that you can buy them individually rather than in a set...

@Doobie - Because it's "ironic". Like how hipsters are wearing scrunchies now.
We use my own made coconut-pencilholder for our toothbrushes :)

thats how i did it, it's in german but with a lots of pictures ;)
Toilet spray toothbrush in the open = Keep the lid down AND stow the toothbrush in the medicine cabinet.
I have a bud vase that is the perfect height for my toothbrush.
Are there really people who leave the lid open when they flush? Eek.
I think so... why not, does your toilette flush that hard, that it splashes all around?
@iligo It's called the aerosol effect, where droplets of liquid from the toilet fly around your bathroom whenever you flush. I'm not too concerned about it, myself.
I use a small clear glass mason jar that use to hold pesto.
Your kitchen sink and the surfaces near it are probably 10 times worse than the spray that comes out of your toilet.
