Ercol Bar Stool
ah, the search has officially begun...
; )
I have #10, the Cast Floor Lamp from EQ3. I found mine on Craigslist for half off, but would have paid full price. It is solid and height adjustable.
I need one. Badly. I like the Adesso one a lot. But I like the Ikea one best. That means more money for Baby doll. Maybe I'll buy her the new Small Cool book to read under it. Oh yeah... Daddy knows what Baby likes. ;-)
Hands down -- Ikea Regolit is the ugliest.
While Ikea's lamp could be the ugliest, or at least cheapest-looking, I'd wager to say it is the largest lamp and casts the most light because of its paper shade. Though the others are more attractive, I really like its presence in my living room--regardless of labels or price tags.
I search CL daily for an arc lamp that I can afford. Some of these are really nice, but I need a brass version. Sources, anyone?
Is the Ikea lamp sturdy? It may not be the best looker of the bunch, but it isn't that bad for the $$.
Here's one from Amazon made by Arco for $220! http://www.amazon.com/Arco-Lamp-Black-Round-Floor/dp/B001JEOTQ2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=furniture&qid=1274318188&sr=1-2
The original design (and hopefully copyrighted?) is on ebay here. Doesn't make the $300 cut, but not ludicrous either.

I'm guessing the one on eBay is not a real Castiglioni.
The Ikea one looks like a fishing rod.
First of all, funny how the Ikea one is the only below the actual $200 bill, and ugly by the way.
Second, didn't we all learned from our parents that those arc lamps will hang lower and lower as time passes by until they are rusted and you are surrounded by cats. I thought that was a lesson well learned, as the mylar wall paper and tropical scene murals.
I liked these and actually pondered acquiring a vintage one for my home...
...until they started showing up in everybody else's place.
I think the IKEA lamp looks like a pinata.
Years ago, when were in our first home, my husband and I made an arc lamp. A heavy base combined with flexible copper tubing, wire, brackets, bulb & shade can make quite a functional & unique lighting fixture.
Like every other trend that comes along, I didn't like the arc lamps at first at all, and now that I like them, I'm wondering, are their 5 minutes up? I feel like the second I get one, everyone will be like, 'ugh, arc lamps are so overdone,' like the Keep Calm posters are. Are they going out any time soon or shall I splurge?
I'd say that it's a pretty classic design, alicia. Wouldn't worry too much about it's appeal being fleeting.
I don't understand why the Regolit couldn't have been designed with the cord running through the arc rather than outside of it. That should have been a no-brainer.
I have #13. I got it for $180 on Craigslist. I like it overall, but it doesn't extend as far as I'd like it to. It doesn't reach to the middle of the room, but it can't be used as a reading light either, so it just hangs somewhere in between. Overall, great look and very sturdy.
I bought the more expensive one from Chiasso

I found a great coupon code but it probably isn't valid anymore
Love my lamp, it's great for reading and it has a dimmer.
We have the Ikea one, with a normal round paper shade. No problems attaching it. I agree that it casts beautiful light -- diffuse but low and intimate, just what you want in your living room at night. The black arm and cord don't bother me, as I barely notice them anymore!
@trish1980, if you go on ikeahacker, there are a bazillion hacks of the regolit lamp. happy searching!
I have the ikea fishing rod with a different shade (looks like a cube). It was $5 through craigslist. :)
i found one at home depot on clearance about a year ago for like, $30, but (of course) i can't find it online now...

Just bought this one on Amazon for about $110 including shipping:
Here's to hoping it doesn't look too cheap!
