Mostly-white rooms, with white walls and furnishings, can be tough to pull off. If you're interested in trying out the look in your own home, or even if you're just struggling to work with the bright white walls of your rental, you should find lots of ideas and inspiration here, among our Apartment Therapy House Tour archives.
Some of these rooms use bright pops of color sparingly against the white, creating a stylish contrast. Others use white as the foundation of a primarily neutral color palette. Still others play with metallics and glossy finishes, or soft, unexpected textures (like that feather chandelier (!!) in the first photo, second row).
What do you think makes these rooms work? Would you enjoy living with a wintry white palette?

Wind chill is well below zero today in Chicago. My doors were frozen shut and I had to crawl out my passenger side.
I don't want anything to do with bringing the feel of winter inside today, its too much!
I'm also in Chicago and I love these rooms. The white doesn't feel cold to me at all.
That feather pendant is amazing and I agree, white doesn't necessarily make a room feel cold. It's a great way to bring prominence to objects within the room or specific architectural details like some of those gorgeous floors.
Snow white rooms?? I don't get it, These rooms have some white...end of story. My idea of a beautiful snow white room are those found on Scandinavian dwelling sights i.e:
http://chezlarsson.typepad.com/ http://mikkelinesin.blogspot.com/
http://moderncountry.blogspot.com/
http://gustavianvintage.blogspot.com/
http://meandalice.blogspot.com/
And all of these have links to more beautiful whiteness.
djt54: thanks!
I wanted to be rude to djt54 and say how I liked the colour shots of apartment therapy better, but crafty chezlarsson is pretty cool. I can say they seem pretty american and not so scandinavian. So there djt54! but then again some of those posts are very scandinavian. Oh well. I guess it's all inspiration.
I love that the original post has inspired others to post their inspirational links. That is what it's all about. After years of living with intense color in my homes, I'm feeling like my next space is going to be very white/natural.
I can never decide what I like better - really white, monochrome rooms with tons of light or lots of splashes of rich, deep colors.... Maybe the best marriage of those two very different ideals is white walls and richly hewed furnishings. Or, the opposite in this post, which I loved - bright walls and white furniture: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/chicago/house-tours/saj-jezs-theraputic-great-room-house-call-100984
What I like about this post is it illustrates the variety of styles that white can accommodate. Very nice!
