Everyone is getting rid of their desktops because laptops are just more convenient to use. A bunch of people are also jumping into Macs, since they are easier to use. That being said, it's always nice to have a large screen and a computer that runs fast. The new iMacs are great because they are a confluence of different technology, HDTVs and computers integrated into one streamlined form.
In an effort to make desktops PCs more beautiful and relevant, Dave Schultze came up with a really interesting concept, the Philco PC. Schultze was inspired by the classic Philco Predicta TVs from the fifties. We think that it just looks amazing and should most definitely be made a reality. The beautiful monitor and desktop are combined with a typewriter-like keyboard and mouse, which made us think of Steampunk.

Sprout Side Table
I would TOTALLY buy this. Particularly if it came out to be less than an iMac.
I miss my desktop; it's just a pain to game on a laptop, but for everything else I do, the laptop is the best option. The Philco PC would look FANTASTIC as our media computer (we don't have a TV) and hopefully be able to be a good gaming PC.
... and, really, I just want it because it's ORANGE. So lovely!
That thing is unbelievable!!
Must buy one NOW!
I would be buy this! But of course at a reasonable pricing.
This is great. A change of color and I'd take one.
I would love to buy this... but only if it didn ot cost much more than other computers of the same stats. In other words, I bet the price would be twice the amount I could pay.
Very pretty in any case. It is nice to see something different, finally.
That is beautiful, and Windows definitely keeps with the Retro theme.
It is so great looking! very cute... I want to paint my old ugly one until I can upgrade... orange nailpolish? wires?
NICE!
I love the look of this, especially the keyboard.
so very cool.
I might even be able to justify putting this on my 1890's era desk. It's gorgeous, but I'm not sure that would be enough to get me off the couch and away from my laptop.
This is the best!!! I would trade my old PC for this quickly, and would show it off to everyone.
This is exactly what i see for the future of computers ...iuts so awesome its beginning now i hope more designers and manufacturers get on the bandwagon there is a huge market waiting for this!!!Awesome!
The epidemy of beauty & brains!!!If its able to deliver all the ramifications a powerful computer does!! Im getting chills!
It would be so refreshing to finally have the 2 areas of my life meet: tech and design! In fact I think that this should be but one example of several easy to conceive of models. Okay, a few! Once you set down the production specs for a model there would be no need to inflate cost if the demand were there: cost would be expected to go up, as usual, with what we choose to line the insides with.
I just got an HP for the first time in well over a decade (and I pray that what people say are true about them not terribly sucking is true) but as always I am so less than happy to introduce a ridiculously gleaming, glossy black tower to my office area. I was even more unhappy 2-ish years ago when it was a high gloss white Dell.
If I were so lucky to live in The Penguin House it would fit in rather well, but I am at a loss as to why the makers of our computers don't get that instead of the just purchased HP high gloss black, we might want one that would compliment the anthracite grey Stûv we dream of hanging in the corner... even if the minds who are cobbling together the desktops never reach the epitome of cool, above, they should at minimum offer an assortment of casings for their wares (is a thin layer w/rusted patina out of the question?); laptops are leaving them in the dust. Ah, not sure if that one Dell or HP tower -all over the Holiday ads- with the bamboo etched design fills this need, k/thanks)
I don't choose between lap or desk top, I live a pauper's life and then eventually have both -and I tend to growl when issues are set forth in a story, or the comments, etc., as x vs y (be it desk/lap, PC/Mac, DC/Marvel)... not to say that was done here, but I am sure we can all call to mind 2 thousand other instances where this has happened.
Yes, I did just finish a four shot latte. I'll shut up now.
This is just a rendering you know, there is no actual device made yet.
Its a cool "concept" but in practical terms how does the curvature of the screen effect the desktop layout.
Outstanding. I love the keyboard especially.
Wow...even the os is retro...
WANT
I would GLADLY go back to being a "PC" if this existed..especially if the dial on front switched screens like spaces does on a Mac ~ THAT would be BRILLIANT!
I so want this PC!! I am a lover of all things retro and it would be so much fun and cheerful to use such a cute computer.
